The end of Carlton (and LWT too, it seems)

I suppose one of the only places we'll see the Carlton name soon will be at the cinema - most of them seem to have "Carlton Advertising"... or something like that.

Unless that now becomes something like "ITV cinema advertising" Rolling Eyes or whatever...

Also, would it not be possible for them to change the channel ID name that you get on some TVs... (I think this is part of the Teletext signal)... it says "Carlton" during the week, LONDON WEEKEND TV at weekends and GMTV in early morning... they should change it to read ITV1 London and also the new names in the other regions (eg "ITV1 Westcountry")

Of course they can change it, it's just a matter of being bothered to, which don't they seem to be (there is still 'HTV West' and 'Carlton' around for instance). I think it's more likely that they'll eventually change it to say just 'ITV1' as they did with DTT (incidentally, that led to the not ITV1 regions getting their station name on the descriptor; afaik before ITV1 every station was listed as 'ITV Channel 3' on DTT, but then when that was changed to 'ITV1', Scottish, Grampian and UTV all changed theirs to reflect the station name).

Would Sky ever change the EPG names from ITV1 HTV Wales and ITV1 HTV West to just ITV1 Wales and ITV1 West? Also why does it say ITV Channel Is instead of just Channel TV like Scottish and Grampian do? Would it just be Channel TV on sky or should it now be ITV1 Channel?

All the Granada local websites seem to have changed today and changed for the worse.

On what used to be yorkshiretv.com, most of the content seems to be removed and what's left looks like its been thrown together badly. Its a pitty as the website was just coming together well on what must be the 4th or 5th attempt at a YTV website

Even the news headlines on the Granada TV site are not getting updated. They are 4 days old, with the newest dated February 6th, 2004.

Can you say "pathetic" for a multi-million pound national broadcaster?

And on the front page of their site, they state

Quote:
Granada Television remains the longest continuous ITC licence holder, having broadcast for over 40 years. In that time it has produced top quality, internationally renowned programmes from Coronation Street to Brideshead Revisited, from World In Action to Disappearing World.

Apart from Coronation Street, which is hardly world renowned, how long ago was it that they made those other programs in the list? Brideshead Revisited was made 20 years ago. As far as I am aware, Disappearing World disappeared in the late 80s, as did World in Action in the 90s.

So can one conclude that Granada TV no longer produces top quality, internationally renowned programmes?

By the looks of those pages, Granada are about to abolish Tyne Tees' site too, bringing in the same bland pages, and probably moving to tyneteestv.com (although that could just be a mistake, as these cheaply built pages simply take whatever is passed in the 'region=xxx' bit and stick it on the page).. A shame, as I found TTTV's site a huge improvement on what the other regions had. Looks like there may be no more streaming video news once they've finished now. Sad

Interesting to see all the regional sites still have the GR/N/D/ logo on them, whilst the new ITV plc has been trying deperately to get rid of Carlton. Oh, but it was a merger, not a takeover right. Rolling Eyes

Pretty much. What would they put if they had to put something shown in the last five years? You've Been Framed?

Charles Allen needs to go, he hasn't got a clue. Just listen to his speech on the ITV corporate site, talking about how they're going to focus on 'schedule-led commissioning' - it's just the sort of blind, market-driven stupidity, with no regard or understanding of TV or entertainment, that you'd expect from a man who came into the industry from catering...

This would seem to suggest the current Tyne Tees site is about to go...

Not website related, but this is as good a place as any to put it. When I popped home yesterday to a TV with the channel descriptors on it, 'Carlton' has been replaced with 'ITV1 Westcountry'. And the regional 600 magazine on teletext now has 'ITV1 Westc'try' on the header line.

I presume similar things have happened at Central, but what about HTV and London?

sadly not - centext's header still says "Carlton" - and the front page is in the old Carlton Plus style, with red heading and yellow text. other pages now have a dodgy itv1 central logo on though.

don't know if anyone else has mentioned this - but the advert for regional advertising now, instead of saying "call carlton sales on ...", says "call itv sales on ..." do i deduce from that, that the merger did not require them to retain 2 seperate sales houses? stupid really - its an advert for regional advertising, and yet they don't even refer to the name of the region.

oh and "carlton's midlander of the year" is now magically "itv's midlander of the year" ... how wonderful.

looks to me like carlton middle management must still have some kind of hand in the running of central - owing to the reluctance to mention "central" or "itv central" wherever possible.

It may be the "600 magazine", but I see no page 600.
