I’ll add to the flurry of ‘final’ posts, as I’m not sure when Asa will be turning the lights out tomorrow and I don’t want to miss out.
I posted many of my memories upthread (although, in the ‘TVF appears in real life’ list I somehow forgot to mention the time I played the organ for the wedding of a reasonably notable star of a slightly infamous ident - I’ll leave you to guess at that one)
All that remains to say is a huge thank you to Asa, the moderation team today and in the past, and to all those users who have provided so much wonderful content and discussion that it has been a privilege to read (and just occasionally contribute to) over the past fifteen years. That’s over half a lifetime ago, something both terrible and wonderful in equal measure!
“while it’s tempting to play it safe, the more we’re willing to risk, the more alive we are. In the end, what we regret most are the chances we never took.”
Just posting my last post as I don't know exactly what time TVF is closing for good in the next 24 hours so here goes!
Three cheers for rotas! No, lol only joking. TVF has been great, with some inspiring, knowledgeable people posting daily for just over 20 years. Cheers, TVF! See you all on TV Live Forum!!
Last post from me as well. Its been an awesome time here, now i have to rind some way of making chrome not take me here every time i type “tv” into the url box lol
Already on TV Live Forum, see you there in the future!
I'm another one of those lurkers, who has browsed TV Forum pretty much every day since the beginning, when I was 17, and eventually registered in 2003. So ingrained in my daily routine, it will take a while to get used to the place being frozen in time after tomorrow!
Although I've only posted around 100 times and don't know any of you in real life, I've really enjoyed being a part of this community, which has always felt close-knit in comparison with other forums. As has been said many times, all good things must come to an end and I applaud Asa for keeping the place going for so long.
I never knew I had an interest in TV presentation before stumbling upon TV Home, which I think I came across through links from the DigiNews network of sites (which became DigitalSpy).
I was originally just looking for updates on when ITV would finally be made available on Sky Digital (it felt like a very long wait!), but no doubt got sidetracked and nostalgic viewing images and videos of classic and current TV presentation and subsequently became hooked on reading many of the topics that followed in the forum over the years.
This being my first post since 2011, and probably my last, I didn't want to miss out on adding my thanks to Asa and the current and past mods for all your hard work, and to Rob for providing us with a new home to pick up where we left off. My username is too short for the new place, so I shall be 'a2b' going forward.
As the final day arrives, I too shall be signing off. Again many thanks to Asa and everyone who has helped out with running the site, both on the screen and behind the scenes. I think this site has always been my number one for sense of community, there's no where else quite like it.
Not sure if I'll sign up for any of the replacements, so this may well be the last time you are subjected to my mutterings, but until our paths cross again, it's been a good run!
Thanks Asa for a brilliant 20 years. I spent much of it lurking, before signing up and slowing adding more and more into conversation.
I do work in the industry & have some geeky friends, but it’s nice to have a place to come and chat without worrying too much about people judging you for a busman’s holiday!
This place has become a bit of an addiction, in that I find myself clicking onto the icon on my phone whenever I have a free few minutes (or when I don’t and just want a distraction!). I’m pretty sure - like many - I’ve visited here everyday for as long as I can remember. I’ll probably do it out of habit for the next few weeks at least..
Well, I posted on the first day so I guess I should post on the last.
There is nothing more left to say except thank you, Asa, for making 20 years of fun and friendship possible. It was a very great honour to be chosen as TV Forum’s first moderator. I hope I lived up to the job. And thank you to Isonstine, MrTomServo, Charlie Wells and Bail; together we kept things on track. And above all, thank you to the members for making this place so special.
