There didn’t feel to be a lot of content on the show tonight. An Ant vs Dec or a filmed section being inserted with other sections cut down a little would have helped I feel. The end performance was good (will the Stephen’s Saturday night takeaway gag roll over to next week), as was the on air dares feature; when I saw the This Morning feature earlier in the week James Martin seemed a little annoyed with the constant interjections, I thought it was a get out of me ear type of feature, but he was in on it all along. It was always going to be hard to top last week’s episode with Cat’s undercover and the successful return of Chums.
Part 6 is always the end of the show show
Part 5 is the reveal of the Takeaway rainbow and Win the Ads
Part 4 is the main headline feature either Undercover or Get out of my Ear, or the On air Dares tonight
Part 3 is Ant vs Dec but only in every other week, stuff like Singalong Live fills in other weeks
Part 2 is the Happiest Minute of the Week (scientifically proven to always take place in part two of your Saturday Night Takeaway) and Double Trouble
Part 1 is the either the audience surprise or stuff like Read My Lips
Episode 4 was the strongest in my opinion with the sea shanty finale, with either episode 2 (the Gordon Ramsey one) or 6 being the weakest, although it was really only part 1 which let the side down tonight, episode 2 also had that Singalong Live with the west end musical that didn’t really work, so I’d go with episode 2
Of course next week is the first time in many many years where the series finale is live from a studio in London

I felt James Martin was getting very irritated with Holly & Phil so it was interesting to see he knew what was going on. I was watching GMB live at the time and did not pick up on anything unusual so they did well at adding the random words in the chat with Richard Arnold
I really enjoyed the end of the show show. Clever how they timed everything just right to appear in time to the pre recorded bits
In the minority but I also enjoyed the Ross Kemp bit but is it right to reward bad behaviour with a free holiday. I agree that she did not seem very surprised. Does anyone know if she has appeared on other shows in the past? Maybe that is why she was not visibly nervous if she is used to doing quiz or game shows
I agree, tonight’s show felt flat. I noticed the End Of The Show Show wasn’t live again either.
To be fair, you only noticed that because they decide to tell us each week. I’m surprised they don’t just keep the ‘LIVE’ DOG on for all the studio bits or just not have one at all. After all if they’re showing a VT before a live football match on Sky or BT they don’t remove the word.
Agree with the comments in here about last nights episodes. The biggest let down was the audience surprise in part 1, but Takeaway have done so many (good) ones over the years I can imagine they’ll be feeling disappointed with it today too.
I do think those segments are probably the 1 thing that just doesn’t work without the audience, because plucking them out of everyone sat down is surely more of a shock?
They said she was in for a gameshow pilot, but from her reactions we can only presume she’d put everything together and guessed what was going to happen.
I really enjoyed Stephen’s new game, hopefully they can do it again? Probably on a Friday with different sets of presenters all round.
End of the Show Show was one of the best this series in my opinion, probably that & Sea Shanty on top.
I’d much rather watch Stephen Mulhern’s Saturday Night Takeaway

Yes, you have to question how much of a surprise it is to end up on SNT when you are randomly at Television Centre at 7pm on a Saturday night. These sections don’t tend to work when the participant is overly confident and laughs along rather than cringing. I think they added it in as this sort of feature has been missed this series, but the setup of it all felt a bit rushed when you compare it to previous ones such as the participant’s parents being flown to Australia to follow them around - there used to be a lot of longer term planning involved.
Double Trouble and the End of the Show Show were pretty good this week though.
Obviously, the Mulhern takeover was comedic, but in all seriousness when Ant and Dec eventually do decide to stop (however far away that day might be, may well be in a fair few years time) could Mulhern take over the baton? I'd imagine it'd be either that (if he'd still be willing to) or the show would end (as it is associated with Ant and Dec).
