Especially in pubs.

Whenever I'm in a pub, I refuse to pay for my drinks until the bar man has adjusted the TV set. Needless to say I leave very thirsty.

I put motion smoothing on for nature documentaries.

Myself and my wife found ourselves sat at the bar in an otherwise deserted pub on holiday a few years ago. There was a widescreen telly connected to a Sky box that was in 4:3 centre cut out mode. The Sky remote was within reach, the landlord went down to the cellar to change a barrell. My wife wouldn't let me 'put things right', it was as if she suddenly had a stroppy toddler to deal with. She won. The beer was good though

Smooth out all that pesky picture detail - seems reasonable!

Makes it easier to see the detail when it isn't stuttering around.

Oh I have many! Let’s start with BBC One ident Lawn which I admired for its creativity and was disliked on TV Forum.

That ident set was just getting into its swing with some new and interesting circles coming in then they butchered them in 2009. I never understood why they couldn’t just have cut some shorter versions while keeping the longer ones in circulation.

From memory, only Kites had a better soundtrack post-2009.

I would argue that Neon's post-2009 soundtrack was an improvement

The SCD TVC ident was one of my favourite BBC One Circle idents besides Neon, Helicopter and Kites

Definitely underrated!

I like the quirkiness of it , perfect for sci-fi dramas and the likes.

And I also agree on the 2006 idents, I liked the set, until it was a bit butchered in 2009, even if I liked some of the 2009 soundtracks , but overall the 2006 were the best

I have an irrational intolerance of slightly-asymmetrical shots of news sets that would look slightly better if the camera was properly centred.

Example...

I cannot express how much I despise Gill Sans MT and its sister fonts.

And especially how the BBC used it for a large chunk of its existence (and it is still used in a decent amount of places today.)

Just, no.
