Another Good Morning Britain Mockup!

Since the sad news of TV Forum closing I've been digging around my TV presentation folder... (March 2021)

This site closed in March 2021 and is now a read-only archive

I think it's safe to say I'm still reeling at the news that TV Forum is closing at the end of the month! I've pretty much visited this site and indeed this very gallery everyday for the past 8 years or more. 7 years ago when I plucked up to courage to register an account on here I was 19 and in college training to become a Graphic Designer. I used to visit the gallery for inspiration and I sure came across some very talented members with their excellent designs! Fast forward to today I hope my designs are good enough to inspire others who are younger and have an ambition for TV presentation and graphic design. Wink

Anyway enough of memory lane... I'm pretty much here jumping on the bandwagon of uploading bits before the Forum closes. I came across this GMB Lower Thirds Graphic mock I created last September that never made it on here.

It's just a little refresh and refinement on the current graphics however I wanted to integrate the clock into the GMB logo and well as adding rounded corners to the straps to make them friendlier and in keeping with the rounded styling of the logo too. Also reverting back and removing the ticker.

I like it. It’s a slightly different take on the current graphics, and tidies everything up a little. The only things I will say is to think about safe areas, everything seems close to the edge of the frame and I’m not a fan of the clock. But it could just be that the colour blends too much with the logo so it’s a struggle to see the actual logo edge. Other than that, good work and great animations.

Thanks man! Appreciate your feedback 😊 Yeah the clock is a bit risky shall we say, I much preferred the first clock and logo setup from the original graphics back in 2014.

I think thwrounded corners make it look much cleaner, the animations are much nicer too as is the very satisfying 'live' wipe animation.

The only gripe I have is with the clock interegrating with the logo - it doesn't look quite right and as fanoftv said the graphics do seem very close to the edge.

As I said, the animations are extremely satisfying and are much better than the current ones.

The only pieces of criticism I have are:
* The clock feels a bit off when matched with the logo and whilst I see why you did it, I feel it would look better as a standalone rectangle.
* Not too keen on the empty space after Los Angeles on the LIVE strap.

Other than that, I am very pleased with this very impressive mock! Smile

Nice work, love the rounded edges, looks infinitely cleaner. Not too sure about the logo, I think the clock should stay separate.

Would love to see other graphics for this, maybe some for a big Breaking event or special programmes!

I love the execution, and what you've managed to do with the video.

However, the graphics (in my opinion) aren't an improvement on what's already there currently and would look alright on air but not brilliant (especially the clock). However, as I said I admire how you've animated the graphics and would love to see you try and do your own animation of the current GMB ones.

Alex,

What an interesting take on the GMB graphics.

I enjoy the wipes very much, and the animations in general are as smooth as silk as I've come to expect of your work.

The way you've integrated the clock and the logo into one yellow blob is interesting and puts me in mind of the way that Today (Australia) used to display their clock/logo/weather:

*

I know from experience that the GMB logo is a tricky shape to neatly integrate into a wider graphics package but I rather like the compromise you've found.

I think the only thing I would do differently is to increase the spacing between the headline and the supporting text in your main graphics. It feels a touch bunched-up when there's a lot of white space above and below.

Nice work overall. Lovely to see, as ever.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Yeah I think in hindsight the clock was a bit of a wild choice! 😄 Must have been having a crazy day back in September last year

Thanks man! If I get chance I might recreate this again for the new forum coming in April with some extra bits and pieces 😊

Ahh thanks so much David! Always appreciate your thoughts 😊 The clock is a bit of a risky design choice I might explore it again when the new forum launches in April! Oh yes, the text spacing in the strap is a little too close, good spot!

It doesn't look bad as it is, I'm only talking about a minor change. If this were my mock, I'd align the headline/supporting text as per the tag (e.g. "BREAKING NEWS" or "NEW THIS MORNING") to the left.

For example:

*

Just looks a bit nicer to my eye, and allows for an easier read for the viewer due to the increase in space around the text, allowing it all to breathe a bit more.

It's your mock, though. Ultimately, I'm just some toerag sticking my oar in. Progress your work as per your desires, not mine!
