France 24 will end broadcasting on DTT in Île-de-France, because of budget cuts, it broadcasted over the old frequencies of NRJ TV Paris https://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2021/01/15/france-24-drops-dtt-distribution/ I have to say, it feels like an obvious move to me. France 24 is an international channel, it's not really aimed at French people inside of France....in fact if I am not wrong there was a fierce debate in France over whether to make this channel available inside of France

It would have been more useful for the English version of the channel to take that frequency since there is hardly any English language content on French TV that foreigners would be able to understand.

This is really a very good point mate, now I am thinking that maybe they made a mistake by putting the French language France 24 on DTT, also the Île-de-France is the region where Paris is located, so France 24 English would have been a lot more appropriate for a major world city like Paris

TF1 have launched a new Ushuaïa TV strand on Saturday mornings. Generation Ushuaïa is presented by Fanny Agostini who links into shows from the pay tv channel about nature and the environment as a taster for those who may wish to subscribe.

A clue to who the new 19/20 National presenter is on France 3 with this trailer promoting the regional bulletins. "let's be closer, let's see further" is the tagline at the end of this, followed by the new presenter hiding behind a clock.

There’s been widespread strike action across the regional France 3 network this week in advance of the extension of 19/20. News bulletins have been shortened or cancelled.

The two main complaints are that there hasn’t been enough time to prepare for the extra 25 mins or so that the regions will need to fill each night, and that this comes in the context of budget cuts where staff who leave are routinely not being replaced. Will be interesting to see how disrupted the relaunch is on Monday.

In a surprise move, France Télévisions is to launch a new linear channel called Culturebox on TNT from February. It'll be on LCN 19 which promises to be in style to BBC Four and Sky Arts.

Hopefully this won't mean Franceinfo will have to drop back to SD again to squeeze this channel in, unless they plan to drop France 4's resolution?

Culturebox is a revival then of the previously online available (internationally too) service. I would love to see that restored. This might impact ARTE going forwards too.

Hold on....I thought that France Télévisions has to do loads of budget cuts, which means that France 4 also will be closed after France O closed last year, so my question is, does France Télévisions will even have enough money for this new channel? I am a bit worried about that broadcaster's financial state

They'll be airing a lot of archive content, which is no different from BBC Four and Sky Arts. Expect to see a lot of those late night operas scheduled on France 3 getting an airing at a reasonable hour.

Going back to how they'll squeeze Culturebox in on TNT, I'd speculate they'll have Culturebox and France 4 drop to 720x576 SD, while Franceinfo drops to 1440x1080 HD. (France Ô and Franceinfo were SD with France 4 at 1440x1080 previously).

This would be a temporary solution as when France 4 closes in August, they can put Culturebox and Franceinfo at 1920x1080.

They’re suggesting it’s only going to stay on air until such time as cultural venues are allowed to reopen.

Le 18h30 starts today on France 3, which unlike its previous incarnation will be in 'grand région' format, without a national presenter. Carole Gaessler remains 19/20 presenter. It appears that each grand région will have a different format for the programme, with some more magazine based (Bourgogne France Comté) and some more news and features-based (see PIDF/PACA/Normandie).

As mentioned above, it will be interesting to see if Culturebox works as a linear channel given the scope of Arte and the closure of France 4 - it won't be exactly a "slam dunk".

The network feed of France 3 has a presenter led CSO edition of Édition Toutes Régions. A pan-regional edition of 18h30 is across the two Normandy sub-regions using a soft set with a magazine format.

Fewer than half of the new regional shows have made it to air on day 1 as the strikes rumble on. Not the start France 3 will have wanted after a lot of promotion for this new slot.

They certainly love a good strike the French. What is the change that's been made - is it moving the regional news from within 19/20 to a new slot at 18:30?
