Anything would be very welcome for 2021 - and I’m not just talking about BBC1 pres. Razz

Honestly I think they should keep the red in their next rebrand but like expand on it by adding some orange?

Well hopefully we’re in for a change. The balloons only lasted five years, and Rhythm and Movement only four. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

I can see more graphical idents like that of BBC Two being used instead of the usual live-action ones. Would be a refreshing but welcome change.

I always thought something like the Westcountry ident package would suit BBC1, its versatile and the short but varied jingles keep the package fresh but joined up. This could work well with geographic locations.

Proof you can plonk a camera in front of an object/people and make a decent ident! #justsayin'bbcone

The Westcountry package has aged well and you could imagine some evolution of it being on screen today (2013 ITV?). But it's all rather dull.

BBC One is the BBC's flagship channel. They need to think bolder and focus on an impactful, authoritative campaign, preferably centred around a unifying and unique symbol.

I agree entirely that strong audio elements are also key to this. The Balloon is fondly remembered for many reasons, one of which being its signature score that commanded the room's attention. For a modern example of this, see the Netflix mnemonic.

The next new look doesn't have to be grand or expensive-looking. It doesn't have to take flights of fancy. They need to do a BBC2 and go back to core brand identity fundamentals.

They've somehow conspired to produce a rudderless set of idents that are embarrassed to be idents - they tell you absolutely nothing about the channel, in many ways they detract from it, presenting it as exceedingly dull and old fashioned.

This will not do at a time when the BBC's very existence is being called into question. They desperately need BBC One to exude confidence, self-assuredness and authority now more than ever.

A sonic logo always works well, but is something that has been lost in TV over recent years. BBC One had one in their three notes that has long since disappeared. Whilst Netflix does branding very well, they don’t have to contain announcers. For me the ideal Ident contains a short build up, a sonic logo and then melody for the announcer to talk over; think BBC One 1997 and Carlton 1999.

What symbol would they use? If 2 has the curve, what about 1?
