That "new music" is now 26 years old though, so it's as retro as everything else! I am surprised that BBC Four don't find room for more TOTP2 other than the themed editions. Maybe the captions referring to "so and so died this week" or "they have a new album out next month" might make them seem a bit odd but most people would surely realise they are repeats anyway.

That never stopped UKTV G2 (and Dave in the early days after the rebrand) repeating them after all.

BBC Choice used to repeat a lot of editions as well.

Those themed editions do crop up quite frequently in the schedules - any more than that and, alongside the main TOTP repeat run, it could risk BBC Four coming to be seen as 'The Top of the Pops Channel' - which may please some, but I think the channel should retain a wide variety of programming. I think I'd prefer to see new editions of TOTP2 being produced for its original home of BBC2 which could be a low cost way of filling some airtime.

They keep repeating the same themed ones over and over though, which is a bit daft when there's plenty of non-themed ones they could show on an adhoc basis.

But yes, new editions would be even better.

I wonder if they feel there's little need for new TOTP2 with the TOTP repeats. Though of course the repeats are only from one era at a time, whereas TOTP2 does show stuff spread across all eras.

I do wonder how many unaired pre-recorded performances there are in the archives from songs which didn't end up doing well enough to end up on te main show, especially from the Cowey era. As Steve mentioned, some of them got burned off on the late night repeat, and some have turned up on TOTP2, but there must be hundreds of them sitting on a shelf somewhere.

I thought 'The Story of...' was going to be a bit too socio-political-leaning again*, but I ended up enjoying the anecdotal parts, especially MC Tunes.

Plenty of glimpses of Cypher/Aston captions and chart rundown graphics to keep this post TVF-relevant.

* - On further reflection, this is the nearest we've got to 'The Rock 'n' Roll Years' for 1990 and beyond, so I shouldn't really complain...

We got a brief glimpse of one in 'The Story of 1990': Liza Minnelli performing 'Love Pains'.

I notice they left in the original caption on the Primal Screen performance on Big Hits 1990, I imagine it was too hard to edit out just by zooming in and the likes because of how it flies all over the screen. Going to be really hard to edit out the captions by 1991 when that style was in use most of the year, in 1990 at least they were only in use for 3 months so weren't on most of the performances Big Hits used.

Though the Story of 1990 showing had a few seconds before the start of that video with what looked like a warm up man introducing her!

Speaking of that one, Ricardo Autobahn is a regular Twitter commenter on the BBC4 repeats, regularly appears in replies to the TOTPFacts twitter account, I've even exchanged a few tweets with him at one point. One of which was to tell him how much me and my sister liked that particular song 🤣

Alex Iannaou (spelling?), one of the infamous cheerleaders who, along with partner-in-crime John Goldsmith, continued to pop-up on camera, even well into the 'Year Zero' era.

Yeah I've got that too. Her performances were recorded just before the main show started.
