My Take on a potential Rebrand for ITV in 2022 (July 2020)

The current ITV General Identity package used since 2013 is, in my own honest opinion, a bit bland, it needs a bit of a facelift and I hope we can all agree on that.

So Today I started making a Concept Identity package of what ITV from 2022 would look like, I based the new logo off it's former versions from 80's (including the 1989 Generic look) to give it a much more up-standard look while throwing in a bit of nostalgia if necessary.

This is what the ITV Base logo would look like: *

Below is an overall view of the Identity package that I produced for this Concept, based it off the Sky look from 2011-2015, if there's any improvements needed or channels/services I missed out or want adding in/removed please let me know, this is a concept so please don't take it to heart.

*

I will add more to this such as Animated Ident's, Menu Still's, Lower Thirds, Info Graphics, etc.

Nah, don't like this.
Looks dated.
Alfie Mulcahy and Jory gave kudos

I think the implied improvement is to make it look less dated.

Ok, how do I make it less dated?...any specific details?

Here's my list.

- - - -

That tiny flick inside the V would disappear when scaled down, so... get rid of that.

Copying something of a rival network I think personally wouldn't end well.

The logos are too detailed [eg. Ultra, News and @10, F1 - also, why an F1 channel?] , and uneven with how long and short the regional names are.

The font choices seem a bit iffy as well. That's one part I really think needs some work.

The gradient on the logos, too - that could use some work as well.

Fair enough on that one, I'll sort that out.

Again, I'll sort it that out as well and make it more original.

Some of the logos are detailed to make them stand out from the rest, it becomes too corporate otherwise, Ultra is too detailed as it needs to be, I'll lower down the detail on the News logos and it's not an F1 Channel, because ITV F1 was it's own standalone coverage so I put that in anticipation of F1 possibly moving back to Free-To-Air and most likely back to ITV.

Any fonts would you suggest that I would change to?, the main 4 channel Fonts are again to make them stand out.

Like with the second "Copying something of a rival network I think personally wouldn't end well.", I'll sort it out to make it original.

ITV as a set of letters is quite ugly. What ITV have achieved with their current logo is make it look good.

It all looks very dated. I don’t see how anyone can think this looks less bland than what we have now.

This is way too over the top and is nothing compared to the current branding.

Please don’t apologise. Every designer will try something that doesn’t work, it’s part and parcel of the graphic design process. Nobody is immune, take Martin Lambie-Nairn for instance: the original brief for BBC One’s 1991 rebrand was a big ‘ONE’ with a globe inside the O, for instance. He went back and worked on it further, and ultimately came out with the smokey globe and serif numeral, which stayed on-screen for 6 years.

I also remember seeing some concept art courtesy of Red Bee for BBC One’s 2006 rebrand, and they were all very noughties-flavoured, some resembling the BBC Breakfast titles of the era, and wouldn’t have stood the test of time at all. (I can’t find the link now unfortunately, but it’s certain to be around somewhere).

You tried an idea out, thought it looked good enough to get some feedback and it hasn’t been favourable. But you gave it a go. That’s alright.

For what it’s worth, I agree with Jon in that the ITV lettering is inherently difficult to work with and make look nice. The current logo is absolutely the best iteration thus far, followed (quite distantly) by the 2005/06 logo which, while a bit bland, looked far more visually appealing than its rather ugly “digital” 1998/99 and serifed 1989 counterparts.

I like your original ITV logo, but the little ones at the bottom look very '2000s' and you should use your more simplistic design at the top in the little bits. Does that make sense?
