Eurovision 2021 - Netherlands - NPO/AVROTROS/NOS

I quite enjoyed spotting all the errors! I thought it was quite a good film though I think I might have hated if it I wasn't such a mega fan of the contest.

Ironically given the storyline I actually think that Iceland is one of the few countries that would want to host the show at the moment given their tourism boom was already in the process of crashing before Covid (great video on this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17oZPYcpPnQ). There were rumours not too long ago that they'd done a deal with the Australian broadcaster to host in Iceland if they were ever to win.

Not having Netflix I haven’t watched the film.

It’s no different to any other movie adaptation of something that happens in real life. Ultimately if you hadn’t heard of Eurovision before, it sounds like this would give you a good idea of what it’s all about.

I can see why they didn’t go for British presenters despite it being in Edinburgh. It gives a truer representation of the phenomenon by having zany continental European presenters.

I also guess in this world winning Eurovision doesn’t give you hosting rights and the contest isn’t organised by the host nations broadcaster. Unless that was contradicted in the film.

But yes it’s a story like any other and obviously in that reality it doesn’t work in quite the same way as in the real world. Not that anyone’s complaining anyway. The point I guess I’m trying to make is I wouldn’t call them errors and it got to the heart of what it’s all about.

The storyline does directly contradict that. My main thoughts on the storyline was that Father Ted did this better 25 years ago!

I think they would have and what a great tie-in to the movie that would have been. Mind you, where would they stage it? All possible venues are quite small

They have an 11k capacity indoor arena in Reykjavik.

I always wanted to know what would happen if, say, San Marino won the thing. (I mean, realistically they'd hold it in the nearest suitable Italian arena, but still.)

It's just been announced that Germany will be debuting at Junior Eurovision this year in Warsaw, Poland.
KiKA, the kids' channel by ARD and ZDF, will participate and broadcast the show live.

Would be nice for the UK to come back but I highly doubt it would happen as Wales in the contest is a thing now.

I suppose the great levelling thing about the Eurovision is that all countries competing are competing equally (with I suppose the caveat of the automatic qualifiers for the final). Smaller countries have won in the past (Monaco, Luxembourg etc) although Monaco declined to host the next year and the BBC did it in Edinburgh. The BBC stepped in again in 1974 when Luxembourg won two years on the trot.

If somewhere like San Marino or Andorra we’re to win, it’d very probably be a co-host with a neighbouring country (and your Italian prediction is entirely plausible for San Marino).

How is it going to go ahead this year? No audience?
