US version though, which features some shared content from the TVS (apologies in bringing that name up) version, but some US only bits, just watched the opening, no St. Anthony Lighthouse. Damn good HD transfer though.

More interesting for the fact that Apple TV+ has broken its “first run content only” strategy and bought in archive content. I don’t think it’s any secret it’s original strategy wasn’t working; a years free trial is given away with every new iOS device and by all accounts a large chunk of them aren’t even activated.

Suprised how you can get a HD transfer from something which was shot on videotape.

Seems hard to see how it could work in the long run, they can only produce so much new content, and not all of it will appeal to everyone, so when someone's seen everything they're interested in and it could be a while till the next new show they're interested in... then what? The delays caused by Coronavirus make it even worse. It's good to have original content as an anchor, but you need a fair amount of other content to get people to keep watching and feel like they're getting their money's worth. They don't exactly have a massive amount of original content after all, you could probably get through it all in 2 or 3 weeks.

I dunno why I'm asking since I probably won't use it but Apple's website says their app is available on a Roku. I presume that's a "normal" Roku and not the adapted Roku software that Now TV uses?

The AppleTV app is available on native Roku devices in exactly the same way as say the BBC iPlayer app is. Content is identical to that on AppleTV4K. Navigation is as near as damn it identical too. It is not available on the electronically Walled garden NOW TV devices.

I think lots of people just assume you need an Apple device to watch Apple TV. I got a year's free sub, at first I did not really like any of their content, but since watching the Tom Hanks movie and also For All Mankind I have enjoyed it.

Another report running round, and this would obviously apply only in the US, is that Apple TV+ may be bundled with Showtime and CBS AllAccess (which itself is being touted for a rebrand under the Paramount name). Either way it seems Apple are recognising that the service isn’t attractive enough on its own. I’ve a free trial and have only watched two shows, the Morning Show (which is quite good imho) and Mythic Quest (which suffers from being somehow missmarketed as a fantasy medieval series when it’s actually a relatively standard work com based in a gaming company).
