BBC News should've done the main coverage from the newsroom 'pit' area by popping a temporary desk/set in there. Always thought from day one that should've happened for election coverage. Would have looked pretty awesome on screen throwing to the news update in E, crossing over to interviews on the balcony/Outside Source area and the media cafe.
Could she/they not have been referencing internal party data, which will be telling them based on canvassing which postal voters have/haven’t voted. It is quite normal within campaigns to know which of your postal voting supporters have cast their ballots.
. .
Yes, but it's the broadcasting of that data that is the offence. Another analogy is knowingly handling stolen goods
If it's come from canvassing rather than from the counting sessions it's no different to broadcasting the latest yougov poll (today, tomorrow is a different kettle of fish)

And what would you do with all the people and functions normally based there (and based there for good reasons)?
Looks like they're using quite a few studios/locations for the coverage. I wouldn't expect a full through-the-night programme, but 7-9pm on Friday isn't very much. Not even a Radio nan Gaidheal simulcast?

No it isn’t.
It isn’t a criminal or civil offence to share canvassing data gathered by the parties. They are not actual votes.
It is quite different from reporting what has actually happened at counts.
I’m not saying that’s what she did, just want to be clear.
Considering the press can do what they like whilst broadcasters have to follow strict rules on election day will the breakfast shows be able to feature the front pages tomorrow?
