Yet more claims of BBC bias, this time involving Laura K on Politics Live.

And it appears the BBC are taking this one seriously - removing the twitter clips and even disabling the episode of Politics Live on iplayer.
which in this situation may be the correct thing to do, as according to the electoral commission:

"Ballot papers will be kept face down throughout a postal vote opening session. Anyone attending an opening session must not attempt to see how individual ballot papers have been marked and must not keep a tally of how ballot papers have been marked.

"It may be an offence to communicate any information obtained at postal vote opening sessions, including about votes cast, before a poll has closed. Anyone with information to suggest this has happened should report it immediately to the police."

I wonder if the offending comment will be edited out of the BBC Parliament repeats at 1930 & 2300. They probably will and should.

I am very surprised that postal votes are even opened before the official count takes place after the polls close tomorrow night.

You beat me to it. I don't understand, I assumed they are not even opened until at least 7am on Polling Day!!??

And what an extraordinary thing to say on a broadcast before 22:00hrs tomorrow!

Always thought Laura K got alot of flack simply because she was a woman but she has shown herself to be inept in basic standards of political reporting more than once during this election campaign, a period when political editors may be under the most pressure but also the most scrutiny too.

That doesn’t look good for LauraK or the BBC to be fair. Most complaints this campaign have usually been from extreme conspiracy theorists, but this one doesn’t look good across the board.

So could someone explain to me what Laura K did wrong?

Apparently a breach of The Representation of the People Act 1983.

TIGHazard explains it in the final paragraph - she potentially committed a criminal offence.

No discussion of voting results or direction is permitted before the polls close at 22:00hrs on polling day. I know in the US there is discussion in the time zones where polling has closed, while still open further west?

Indeed the big takeaway from recent months for me has been how poor Kuessenburg and Peston have been as political editors. These times really do call for a strong political team to hold the politicians to account and both seem to often miss the mark and lack gravitas. And the incidents this week have really not shown both in a good light - in election week of allweeks.

By comparison, Katya Adler for example has been brilliant and the likes of Emily Maitlis & Emma Barnett have shone.

Could she/they not have been referencing internal party data, which will be telling them based on canvassing which postal voters have/haven’t voted. It is quite normal within campaigns to know which of your postal voting supporters have cast their ballots.

Anyway, the Sky studio looks mind blowing. The way the glass box set up should always have looked. Just stunning.
