Discovery have to many channels in the UK as it is.

Maybe so, but the Quest brand targets FTA viewers, where as the others behind the paywall don't. The UKTV factual channels will increase their share of the market in the UK and will be a better fit for a broadcaster that largely focuses on factual entertainment.

Hopefully with the entertainment channels coming under the same banner, they'll be less duplication of scheduling across brands as they've done at UKTV. I can see Drama becoming more classic sitcom based if and when Yesterday moves to Discovery to ensure FTA promotion of Gold.

But a lot of people who watch the UKTV channels are elderly people who are not as technologically savvy as the younger generations, some don't even have WiFi.

And that population is growing faster every year, with an older generation who like UKTV channels, there is income, and there is money to be made from it. So UKTV will remain as it is.

Although nowhere near as much money to be made from that demographic as all the others.

If the speculation is correct, BBC Studios will gain all of UKTV's entertainment brands, while Discovery will gain all of the factual brands, including Yesterday which shows a mix of factual and entertainment shows currently.

Discovery would gain a Freeview slot in Yesterday.

I would guess it will be something like;

BBC Studios -
W
Dave
Gold
Alibi
Drama
UKTV Play
UKTV Productions

Discovery -
Home
Yesterday
Good Food (not the name)
Eden

Really is the only one I am not sure about. My guess is discovery might have it.

Existing channels could close, and the worthwhile content moving to existing channels

I'm guessing Really will go to the BBC given that it's more of an entertainment channel, and it's going to be a 60/40 split (which is why the BBC are paying Discovering £100m for a 10% stake).

By UKTV Productions, I'm assuming you mean UKTV Originals (UKTV don't make their own programmes)? I would have assumed that individual programmes/series will go to the channel they were commissioned for.

Not so sure about UKTV Play. Can't see it surviving in its current form with the 6 'BBC' channels. I'm guessing that could get broken up like the rest of UKTV, with some channels becoming part of BBC iPlayer (with some channels only available to subscribers), and the rest becoming part of Discovery on demand.
