No regard for safe-areas at the end of SNT.

Err.. well it's not cutting off, it looked within 10% safe to me.

What is supposed to be wrong with that?

If people were watching in SD (with the 16:9 areas cropped - overscan) some of the text would be cropped out.

Of course, because I captured it on ITV HD (via my YouView box) - some TV do 'Overscan' (crop into the 16:9 safe area). My YouView box doesn't do that.

I'm aware (did see it live and have my telly on 'Just Scan'/no overscan) and it just about fit within 10%.

Yeah, but they should make it at least 30% within the 16:9 safe area. To avoid what happened with the ITV racing promo.

You would be wasting space. Typically they tend to design/template up to 10%-20%.

Oh. 15% would be fine.

Going into the past for a moment

As well as the classic advert for the launch of a certain big money quiz, there is another trailer style being used here

I kind of remember this but I'm thinking this style must have been quite short lived, used for a few months from the launch of the Network Promotions Unit to the launch of the Hearts device.

What's interesting about that continuity clip too is the Carlton 1996/Central 1998 syle ITV 'searchlight' ident before the Heartbeat trailer. I have no recollection of an ITV logo version of the 'searchlight' ident, with place names replaced with words relevant to ITV. I don't think Central even had their own version of that made for them.

Even more interesting, even though it was surely designed years later, the trailer endboards would have fitted right in with the 1989 ident, which I think was only being used by Grampian at this late stage.

It's not a searchlight, it's mimicking the display of a radar

Indeed, Grampian had probably never had such coherent presentation.

To think up to that point each region was making their own trailers for network programmes, ridiculous duplication.
