IF Scotland used this well, Is it possible there used it yesterday for the Beechgrove garden?
It almost certainly was Scotland who were first to air its reinstatement. I've been capturing every BBC2 Network junction for weeks and it definitely was not used before The
A to Z of TV Gardening,
very early in the mornings.

Which just shows what we've all said for years. Keep the idents from 1991-2001 and just add to the set.
I personally think that if you launch a new ident package it should be with around 40, a different one for every junction.

There's no reason for Network not to add more now, as Garden (with its picture quality, in my opinion, nowhere near good enough for use on a HD channel) passing the BBC's internal compliance stage and, therefore, allowed onto BBC2 HD for use on air.
As an aside, was it not only ever speculation on here that the reason for the limited network set was unsuitability for HD*? The only insider info posted on the matter was that they wanted "idents where the "2" is active, not passive", which ruled out quite a lot.
This was seemingly relaxed with the introduction of Silk as the serious/generic ident.
*and if you look at the appalling quality the increasingly seen next menus are broadcast in, you'll forgive me for thinking this was not a factor.
I agree, good to have it back on Network. I have to admit, though, I'm a fan of the version 2 soundtrack more ...it's natural for nature to evolve
This is almost certainly a copy of the 2001 version of the ident (which incidentally was titled 'Gardening') which was simply a 16:9 version of the 4:3 original from 1991 - hence why it includes the original soundtrack and looks rather poor in HD.

However, the simple cropping does not explain the extent of the wobbly picture instability one can see when looking closely at the bricks, hence why I thought it might be via an analogue tape format never designed or accepted for broadcast use (in any other application other than Electronic News Gathering) such as BetaSP, or even Hi-band U-matic

I've always believed that some sort of 'effect' had been added to the footage - to make the timelapse look a bit more authentic. It's also apparent on the 2001 version. I suspect this is only really becoming apparent now for you because it shows up more on HD transmission. It would probably have been more difficult to spot on SD transmission.
