Nice typeface for the astons/overlays - good to see a variant of Sanser being brought off the subs bench Very Happy

The BBC's World Cup website has been launched, and on the main page includes the BBC's World Cup theme tune.

It's an adaptation of Handel's 'See The Conquering Hero Comes', and sounds pretty good IMO. A welcome return to the traditional opera theme tunes, which we haven't really heard since Euro 2000. Hopefully a nice set of titles to go with it as well.

The presenter line-up has also been revealed: Gary Lineker and Ray Stubbs will be the main presenters for live matches; Adrian Chiles will front highlights shows and Manish Bhasin will do Football Focus and some of the interactive forums. Commentators are as expected; the usual pundits are joined by Leonardo, Marcell Desailly and Gordon Strachan.

The BBC Press Pack is worth a read - especially the 'Behind the Scenes' section which has much on the choice of studio, the arrangements with the host broadcaster, HDTV and the graphics package.

I was just reading that and it is very interesting. Very nice studio by the sound of it overlooking the Brandenberg Gate in Berlin. Also they are planning to use their own graphics for the matches - they're allowed to do this for World Cup's but not for Euro's etc. It all sounds pretty good to me!

Personally, I think the WC graphics are always better than the Beeb ones- the WC2002 ones for the BBC were terrible. And I'd rather see some new innovative WC ones than the 'boxes' (as nice as they are).

They say they are going to provide English commentry for the foreign channels that take English as the second language, I wonder if therfore the likes of Premiere(the Pay provider in Germany) will use this option...

ITV have announced their squad for the World Cup today. Key bits below from MediaGuardian :

ITV Sport has signed up failed England manager candidates Sam Allardyce and Alan Curbishley, along with Christian O'Connell, for its World Cup coverage next month. Allardyce, Curbishley and Manchester City's Stuart Pearce will form part of ITV's commentating team for the tournament in Germany, which runs from June 9 to July 9.

Virgin Radio breakfast host O'Connell will present the ITV4 World Cup spin-off show, World Cuppa, taking a light-hearted look at the event.

World Cuppa will be a one-hour show broadcast on ITV4 at 10pm throughout the tournament.

ITV is taking its World Cup coverage from Germany on the road, hosting live coverage from the venues around the country, while the BBC is expected to base its operation in Berlin.

In addition to ITV Sport presenters Steve Rider, Jim Rosenthal and Gabby Logan, the broadcaster's Germany 2006 team will feature regular football commentators Clive Tyldesley, Peter Drury and Jon Champion, and pundits Ally McCoist, Andy Townsend, Robbie Earle, Terry Venables and David Pleat.

ITV has also hired Ruud Gullit, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Jay-Jay Okocha, Gareth Southgate and Jim Beglin for the World Cup.

Matt Smith will host a regular highlights programme, while Gabriel Clark is to report from the England base in Baden Baden and Ned Boulting will be on the road filing stories from other World Cup locations around Germany.

ITV Sport will have a new onscreen look for the World Cup, as well as promos for its tournament coverage being directed by Daryl Goodrich, whose credits include the award-winning Pride film for London's 2012 Olympic bid.

The broadcaster has also commissioned its own World Cup theme song, a version of David Bowie's Heroes to be performed by Kasabian.

Sounds quite good. I wonder what the new look to ITV Sport will intail. Will it just be for the world cup coverage, or will ITV Sport actually get a polished look from red bee. As it is, it appears that they've just had to drop in the new look to everything.

As for the World Cuppa, it sounds good, I wonder what sort of style it will take. Fantasy football or like that programme that Johnny Vaughan did (was that for World Cup 2002?).

They seem to have a lot of pundits for the coverage, will they all get used, or just randoms all of the time?

It's interesting that they're using Steve Ryder for the coverage too, and poor Matt Smith has been relegated all the way down to highlights, at least he's still there though.

Just to note, there seems to be a very slight font change on the banner on the BBC World Cup 2006 site, also with a two tone effect on the background of the banner. Probably better if you looked yourself, sorry for the poor description!

I see the BBC have got a trailer going now on TV and looks awful in my opinion. What's with all these bad metaphors?! The 'predator' looks like it's from an early '90s video game.

...and it's got Ian Wright at the end, what a bozo Rolling Eyes
