That report about Farepak by John Stapleton felt VERY One Show... but I'm still liking the show so far, I think I'll stick with it.

I think Adrian and Chrstines chemistry has stuck. They genuinely do get on and it shows. Nice sport news format.
Love the clock!

I'm liking the new show so far but feel that they could do more with the regional opt outs instead of making them feel like BBC threes 60 second roundups. They could do a brief 60 second summary at 15 past the hour and then a 5 minute bulletin at 15 minutes to the hour

Looking good, particularly in HD. Shame the weather looked crap without CSO however.

Sadly not available on STV HD too. Just showing a message saying the channel is back at 09:25. How weird.

I actually didn't like watching GMTV before, but I have enjoyed Daybreak so far. I can see that it does have more of a news element to it, despite the regional opt-outs being desperately short. Love the '5-a-day' concept, the view (naturally!), and I think Adrian and Christine have done a good job of presenting so far. Also, I like the concept of many of the reports following up their package for questions - and some of the presenters being predent at the TOTH.

Also, just watching the sport, and there is great banter and - what I love - laughter from the crew. I just think that kind of thing makes a show much more atmospheric and personable!

What's right so far:

* The set is nice, big and getting lighter by the minute naturally.
* The graphics package looks nice, and ironically links to GMTV's very first titles with its varied images and sunrises. Yes, I'm aware GMTV don't have a patent or copyright on Sunrise.
* It's certainly had wads of money thrown at it, as you can tell

What's wrong so far:

* Adrian has all the on-screen charm of a watermelon covered in urine. Squinting hard enough he might actually pop his spleen, he either can't see the autocue or is struggling to believe how contrived his chemistry with Christine is. His insistence on commenting on every story he reads (e.g. Farepak - "Grim story, that" - well, duh) is irritating as well, not to mention the memo that seems to have insisted every crew member has an apoplexy every time he says something remotely unfunny
* Christine is decent but she's fairly lightweight and every time she asks a question it's like she's worked up to it for five years
* Our lisping princess in the north east this morning irritated me for a start, but then we have about 42 seconds of regional news before launching into travel and weather. For a two minute opt you've got to wonder whether the regions really think there's any point in them coming into work in the morning, since most of this information is available online. Poor weather forecast too - and the time between bulletins at the end just proves ITV are p*ssing on the regions; at 7.15, our next bulletin is at 1.55
* Tasmsmsin (I don't know where the s and m comes in her name - badum-tish!) comes across as thoroughly dense
* The 5-a-day is contrived... just call it the headlines
* Why are Pinky and Perky moving around on set so much? It's making me feel sick
* These constant stings are an assault, especially since they frame about 3mins worth of ads every time
* Steve Hargrave. He's just crap
* Lucy VErsamy mentions Daybreak so much it's like she's trying to convince herself she's not working for Sky any more.... we've just taken a look at the Daybreak cameras in the Daybreak studio for Daybreak weather. She's just gone off Daybreak air and is now off for a Daybreak poo in the Daybreak toilets on Daybreak

Here's the big one...

*Essentially, this is just GMTV meets The One Show... the show still retains the reactionary, Daily Mirror style reporting of GMTV, the competitions, the repetitiveness, the camera work (the guy on the handheld, in particular, just evokes GMTV) and the thinly-veiled pretence of newsiness disguised as reading the same thing but in a serious voice... for example, there's still the gossipy interest in Wayne Rooney, Staplegun now badgers people outside instead of inside and the vacuous competition is even worse now

I'll come back to Daybreak in about a month and see if anything's changed, but it looks like I'm off to Sky. I've never watched Sunrise but I'm about to start.

III LLOOOVVVEEEE IITTT!

Well nearly all of it! A few things niggling me, but much less than GMTV! Still, I need to watch a whole week before making my judgment!

BTW, I think Christine is doing brilliantly

You'll have to change your crap sig, then

I'd say its GMTV with a budget - similar content, just a little more polished.

By far the best thing about Daybreak is its studio - and boy, doesn't it come into its own during the daylight. ITV must be pleased they've had such a beautiful morning for the launch.

I'm not too fussed on this '5 a Day' gimmick. 'Headlines' would do nicely.

By the way, according to the Northern Ireland presenter, there will be a local weather forecast at 9.00am . . . I hope it'll be substantive enough to make it worthwhile.

Do you know what that was what was exactly in the back in my mind. This has all the connotations of the two eras of RI:SE. The gimmicky headlines, different areas around the studio, multiple presenters, in-studio humour, window of London as the background, and the live action shots in the titles.. And we all know how that fell on it's arse.

Overall if I'm honest, 1 hour 45 mins in and I'm not really struck by this. It seems a pretty poor programme to me and there are better alternatives to get my news fix of a morning. I trust hopefully these niggles will get ironed out after a while, but if not I can see me migrating permanently to the Beeb's offering for the first time ever and I can see others following suit.
