Found on a VCR, this aired before a trailer (after the end of cd:uk) for S Club 7's "back to the 50s" which was premiering that night (possibly sometime in August 1999?). Certainly a lot of Hearts trailers.

Granada-wise, was the same jingle used throughout the whole 1990-1994 'white with blue stripe' era (the 'IBA' jingle as I call it)? Did this change when the ident changed in 1995?

How long were the 'Granada in the North West' variants around - were they used mainly before local news and current affairs programmes?

Here at 01:30 - is this an example of the 'flag' being used as an ident, or just another variation of the 91-94 ident?

The YT clip you posted shows that the jingle changed for the grey ident in 1991, and then remained until the end of 1994 with the bigger blue stripe.

They were introduced in either 1989 or 1990, (like many other regions at the time they could probably smell a franchise round coming) and it remained in use until 1994, it's worth noting that on regional programming they used 'Granada in the North West' as the programme end cap.

Train - A model train track shaped like a G Arrow with a toy train on it pulling into a station. Was general use.
I remember that one was always used before Home and Away after CITV and it really bothered the OCD in me that they never played the ident through all the way to see the train reach the end of the track in the G.

Weird child.

Are you suppose to see the train to hit the buffers?

I believe once the train hits the buffers there is a massive explosion which sees the railway set dramatically destroyed in seconds though as I've said I've yet to see the ident in full so can't comment on whether or not this is true...

The train has well and truly hit the buffers now - plenty of 'train crash telly' on ITV!

August would make sense. I'm led to believe that the ITV logo was added to both Anglia and Meridian in July or perhaps late June 1999. These were in use until November 1999 when they were replaced with the hearts. Although TV Ark suggest that regional idents were sometimes still used, most evidence, including forumers who live in these regions, suggests TV Ark are wrong on that score.

EDIT: There's a youtube video which shows the Meridian ident with ITV logo in use as early as 19th June.

Interestingly, HTV were unaffected despite also being a UNM region. Certainly, HTW Wales had no ITV logo on its idents during this period. Of course, transmission and continuity came from Cardiff, not Southampton, so they may well have been afforded more autonomy. HTV West, whose transmission was by now in Southampton, is a bit more of an enigma to me. There's hardly any footage of continuity of HTV West from the 1998-2002 era on youtube. I doubt it had ITV branding either before November 1999, as I can't see it working very well on the HTV ident of the time. I still don't get how HTV West fitted in with Anglia and Meridian. Was joint continuity common or did HTV West usually get its own done especially? What about after Carlton bought it and introduced its own version of the hearts idents?

An ITV logo would have looked quite odd on the HTV idents they were using at the time (the HTV logo practically filled the screen).

ITV West didn't come from Southampton until a bit later on (circa 2000). I'm sure even then the ITV Wales announcers would just prerecord West-specific continuity and send it down a line.

EDIT: some research online suggests that some of the announcements were prerecorded in Southampton, but other times freelancers that would also work at Wales would record announcements.

Very interesting! Will be added to the the NEXT email!

Can i just double check with a few good people about the dates for Yorkshire?

Yorkshire
* 1969: Yorkshire TV in colour
* Jan 1982 Updated version with "colour" Dropped and updated String
# 1983: version of the Serving 6 Million Viewers animation.
# 1986 Serving 6 Million Viewers slogan from space.
# Programme slides were used into most programmes expect the news

* Jan 1987:
~ Liquid Gold ident
~ revolving chevron
~except before programmes produced by YTV - they were still introduced over a slide, probably because they didn't want to crash two chevron logos - YTV still showed the frontcaps if present on the tapes (Si-Co)

* Friday 1st 1989, Yorkshire Television adopted the first ITV generic look
~ Standard version
~ Static version with the Chevron in the middle

* ????? 1991 It was changed to show LARGE Chevron instead of the ITV Logo at the end.
* New ident where the LARGE Chevron appeared at the end instead of ITV along with NEW font for Yorkshire television
~Static version with the Chevron in the middle from 1989 was kept:

* Monday 5th September 1994 : ITV look dropped and replaced
* Monday 3rd October 1996 Channel 3 ident: ended 8th March 1998
* Monday 9th March 1998 - 8 November 1999 ( until 2002 for use in to local shows)
