And so the "BBC" is gone from the frontage of TC1... Sad

The BBC sign has been removed from TC1. Presumably "Television Centre" will be gone soon as well.

I went on the Open House tour of TVC last week and was surprised by how the building was pretty much exactly the same as it was when it closed. Stage Door has barely changed, there's still the odd horrible pot plant remaining in situ and the WHSmith sign is still there. I know it's a big building to clear but after 18 months or so it was a bit surprising to see these sorts of things not in a skip.

I spoke to one of the architects who said the reason why the three studios aren't reipening next year is because they realised that there would be too much noise from the rest of the construction site to make television. You'd think someone would have realised that before.

The Blue Peter garden was looking quite overgrown although this will be retained.

the 'Television Centre" sign stays as that's the name of the new complex. Even the dots remain I think, just not the BBC logo

I'm sure I've seen renders with the BBC logo on TC1 alongside the dots and Television Centre.

The most recent render I've seen is one without the logo.

I didn't realise the NET 1 and 2 SPGs are still running there (they were required after DSO for quite a while so that Tunbridge Wells could still get a subtitle feed !)

They had to be the last things switched off as they provided the reference for everything that was still running. I think that there were still some signals passing through TVC until a few weeks ago

There's still apparently one or two bits of kit live in CCA - the last will be turned off this week.

I note the linked article at the bottom of the web page (tvc past, present and future) still perpetuates the myth that tvc was the world's first purpose built centre for television production. Granada's site in Manchester predating tvc by quite a few years.

The BBC have said on Twitter that the TVC BBC blocks will likely be reused at another BBC property.

I think because TVC was commissioned in 1949 and construction started in 1951 many people agree that although it wasn't the first to be opened, it was the first in other ways.

Quay Street Manchester was the first fully fledged studio and transmission centre in 1956 upon opening then, however parts making up the later Television Centre opened first.
