There's no need to change it in my opinion, it may not be 'fresh' and perhaps a little dated, but there's nothing wrong with them.
They don't look overly old, imo they have a good few years left.
A refresh would be nice though, however unlikely.

I think the Doctor Who take over & the Love **Insert Year**, branding helps keep the idents 'from ageing too fast'.

Oh God no. I hate that 'Love' presentation. It doesn't mean anything. Maybe they should just stick with the current trailer endboard then....

Makes the normal idents look good/fresh though!

The 'Love' thing is crap, but the lego type cylinders are good and very versatile. Just need to get it right.

The circles certainly were a breath of fresh air when introduced - although I think a large part of it was due to the fact that the dancers were so poor and certain idents reaked of a rather nasty kind of forced political correctness/inclusion which belonged in the late 90's and was outdated even before they were introduced.

Whilst they are not bad, I don't think they are a strong enough package to still be rattling on 8 years later and with 10 years of use looking very likely - whereas if the balloons floated their way across the 10 year line I don't think anyone would have batted an eyelid (although questions probably would be asked if they were still in use now, what would be 17 years after their introduction).

The old 2's showing up on BBC2 I think are a welcome break from the tired looking package they have and look all the fresher after their absence.

I would agree that maybe temporarily bringing back classic packages like the balloons (well lets face it, it could *only* be the balloons - the older packages had only 1 ident which wouldn't do in 2014 and I doubt bringing the dancers back would be a popular move) would do well to tide them over for a year or so before a rebrand which hopefully will come in 2016 when they get some more money.

They could justify it using the same nostalgia grounds that they have for bringing back 1991 2's - BBC1 itself is also effectively 50 years old this year as it was never called BBC1 until BBC2 launched.

I would agree - and I also believe that it wouldn't do any harm for the BBC to return to Lambie Nairn and draw up a fresh brand across the channels. If the BBC wants to stay current, groundbreaking and appealing then I certainly believe LN are right for the job.

Ugh as much as I yearn for the Balloon idents to return to BBC 1 they do seem a bit dated and I can't see at all how they would fit in to BBC One's "modernised" presentation. I would feel it would be a mish-mashed, frankenstein monster-esque creation.

Could be like when they revamped the original BBC Choice idents by mashing them together with more upbeat music to match what the channel had turned into. CBBC did the same during a similar era.

They could do a phased reintroduction quite easily by producing special idents for events featuring the balloon, the Commonwealth Games ident would have been a prime example although the BBC 1 variant was pretty decent, at least compared to the BBC 2 one.

Then reintroduce a few classics due to public demand.

Yeah.. but adding more upbeat music (or the likes) to the graceful balloons or even the Globe idents would I believe be detrimental to BBC's making it more "corporate" company.

With the current brand I echo that I'd like to see the end boards, etc.

In terms of the idents I'd like to see them mix it up a little and bring back the longer original cuts - especially the music.

Bringing back older idents could help aswell. Moon especially is one that should return, the music was beautiful.

Forced political correctness? I'm not in the PC brigade, far from it, but how were they politically correct? A guy in a wheelchair? Dancers? Eh?

The only circle idents that have worked for me are kites, surfers and helicopter. My main issue with them is the anaemic 'one' font.

Although I didn't like the ideology behind them, the dancer idents had much higher production values and gave BBC One a stronger identity.

The brilliant Balloons would of course lasted much longer if Lorraine Heggessey had not disliked them so much.

Really? How much longer would you have given them?
I think regardless of whether Ms Heggessey had come along or not, based on the life span of previous BBC One idents, the balloons wouldn't have lasted past the back end of 2004 at the absolute latest, but on the upside it would probably have avoided the Rhythm and Movement phase. I doubt the balloons would still be in use today.
