This is still the top story on the ITV Evening News tonight but on the Six O'Clock News, it was not in the headlines at the top of the hour and was not reported till about 6.20. I think the beeb was right as there is nothing new or important to report.

Nothing to report, but they still went live to the scene!

IIRC there was no report instead just the live link as there was not much to report to do a report and a live link to just update viewers on the what being happning today was a lot useful.

It's sickening now how it's all spilling out of just the news reports too people on various programmes wearing these yellow ribbons.

And even a momentous day at Wembley was interupted not once, but twice, to screen images of Madeline on the big screen.

It was understandable at the UEFA Cup Final in Glasgow with both the Scottish connection and both teams being from Spain, but this really was just milking it!

It's bad enough Madeline went missing due to her parent irresponsibility, but now due to their guilt we're having to put up with this sickening media campaign!

And you'll notice the media are beginning to turn on themselve now - in the last couple of days I've seen a couple of things where the focus has turned onto how they are covering events!

Special message from TalkTalk - Please help in the search for Madeleine McCann

Madeleine's aunt, Philomena McCann, has devised an email poster as she fears that Madeleine may have been taken to Spain where the girl's disappearance has generated less attention.

You can download the poster from here

Anyone with information should contact the Portuguese police direct on 00 351 282 405 400 (international call rates apply) or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Anyone else had the 'log off MSN messenger at such and such a time in respect of Madeline' message from one of their friends? The whole thing is getting totally out of hand

I was saying to a friend on Friday, not entirely seriously, that the next thing would be that we'd be asked to observe a minute's silence.

Lo and behold today at midday there's to be a minute's silence.

Yes, this case is very tragic for the family, but I really think this country has taken leave of its senses over this. As someone said earlier, it's reminiscent of the hysteria surrounding Princess Diana's death.

I've been drawn to this article, on another forum, from

The New York Times

which is written by a leading correspondent for the paper, it's well written and reasonably impartial. It covers the hysteria around this story.

What happened with that? Did anyone take any notice (shown on Sky maybe)?

Thank goodness the BBC seem to have got a grip of themselves and started putting the story down the schedule. Ultimately I don't think any of this has helped the search for her and the backlash would have kicked in had this level of coverage continued without any real substance.

Unfortunately Sky are still pulling on the dry tit of this story. Last night they even dropped an ad break to show Gerry McCann driving to the airport.

Call me cynical but I doubt she'll be found and this will become another Ben Needham story, revived every few years with a new photofit every time.

Thank God one news programme has started to take notice.

This story is way out of control on some news programmes. Am watching ITV News now and it seems the Dad has flown home for some reason (not sure why) but I do now know he spoke to a child who goes the same church as the missing girl. Rolling Eyes

Top story if ever I saw one! Forget the fact that massive fighting has broken out at a Lebanon refugee camp with at least 10 confirmed dead. oh and a UK solider has dead in Iraq. This girl is far more important! Rolling Eyes

If it happend in this country, would the parents not be charged with something. I mean i know they were close to the appartment apparently, but not close enough if they never noticed their daughter being taken.

If this was a family on benefits with 5 children i bet the press would be laying in hard to them. Maybe wrong to give a sweeping statement like that but i just feel that would be the case.

Like people have said on here, why all the coverage here - she went missing over there, not here.
