Agree with all of that. The titles do "lack" something - but it's quite nice and classy overall.

It feels like it's a nice end to the titles but there should be something building up to it. That's the way opening credits have gone though on US TV especially.

The glacial-speed set changes continue at CBS Evening News. The blue header seen below has finally been updated. Its now white and has the Cronkite Map graphic behind it. Similar to the graphic backdrop seen on the next image. The logo is in blue letters and retains the classic CBS NEWS font.. Now if they just get rid of that tired graphic that encircles the assignment desk in the middle of the news room.

They seem to have reverted back to something very closely resembling the Dan Rather era theme?

Yes, they have used that theme since Scott Pelley replaced Katie Couric.

Yes, that is the music from 1987-1991 - revived in 2011 when Scott Pelley took over!

The CBS Morning News relaunched this week, and has moved to the CBSN studio...

(Full story on Newscaststudio: http://www.newscaststudio.com/2015/09/22/cbs-morning-news-gets-new-look/)

I see that the Morning News is now being repeated until 9am ET on CBSN. Not sure whether this is a new thing to coincide with the relaunch or not (I haven't watched CBSN for a while). But I know that, when they launched, they'd repeat stories from Jeff Glor's 7pm-midnight slot right up until 9am - which made it look like he was on air for 14 hours straight - so this is a big improvement.

CBS has also axed its overnight programme Up To The Minute, which has been on since 1992, and replaced it with the CBS Overnight News, from the Evening News set:

The morning news was already provided on a loop to CBS affiliates until 10am ET/7am PT, when the last affiliates join CBS This Morning (although the 30 minutes will only be updated for major developments). So this makes complete sense. They managed to mess up the opening titles on the first new look edition, but sorted it out for the second and it's quite nice. They use the old CBS This Morning music (it's a huge package with loads of cuts, but CBS This Morning predominantly use actual songs in & out of break)

CBSN is now showing highlights from CBS This Morning while the programme's on air between 7 and 9am ET.

They definitely seem to be turning CBSN into more of a 24-hour service, which is great to see.

Newscast studio article about the record viewership for CBSN. Impressive. Quality journalism.

CBS are revamping the weekend editions of the CBS Evening News and rebranding it as the CBS Weekend News, with stronger links to the CBSN service. Two CBSN anchors will take over presenting duties.

Sure this is CBSN thread but since there are discussions of CBS News in here I'd figure I'd post this. CBS Evening News redid their opening akin to the eye opener on CBS This Morning and a new theme song. The song is good but I don't think it fits the serious journalism outlet that CBS likes to present themselves as.

Here's a segment that aired on the production and history of their theme:

And the actual opening:

I'm still not sure how I like retiring a theme that has been in use for almost 40 years.
