Wow, guess I predicted the wrong morning programme then!

Still, that's a fantastic break for her.

You reckon? As with the majority of 'Daybreak'ers, her career could very easily go down the pan.

And naughty Gordon announcing it when it seemed the BBC was trying to keep it hush-hush!

I had a feeling she'd be off to Daybreak with the clue being new job in September but didn't want to sound Daybreak obsessed when I hardly watch it! Great signing for them, its just a shame she won't be the main anchor but I'm sure in time she will be. The BBC to ITV switch is a different kettle of fish when it's a regional news presenter going national, so I don't understand why that is being brought up.

True on both counts.

Had only been thinking of her moving from regional to national, but now that you mention it Daybreak might not be the best move!

Counting down the moments until the speculation begins that "doesn't get along with Roger"....

I avoided saying that in my last post - but I'm sure it's what we are all thinking. Anyway, it is now a big regional job which will attract candidates from across the country. Any half decent replacement could well be an occasional relief on breakfast as well. I don't think we can presume it is guaranteed to anyone.

Will she also be the newsreader for the rest of the programme?

I see they've already changed the cover photo on Facebook to Annabel and Roger. Well done to Annabel, as it does seem logical and justified that she gets the job of Ranvir. Annabel is very understated and more professional than Ranvir. She has personality and is very much likeable - arguably more down to earth than Ranvir. Roger seems to get on much better with Annabel than he did with Ranvir in any case. Such a shame that the programme loses its two main faces within less than a year.

I don't know whether I'm overreading her departure, I probably am, but I can't help but feel that the appointment of Roger to the programme had a bearing on her departure. I mean, the pair never got on completely well and I think it showed to a degree on-screen. It seems a shame for her to be leaving the great new facilities they have in Salford now, and I saw Ranvir's logical career progession within the BBC to 5 Live and beyond.

It's a shame that, in my view, she has basically written off her LONG-TERM career and that this promotion has come too soon. She's done some 5 Live, but that is radio and she hasn't done national TV. Very risky and I can't help but feel it's two steps forward, one step back with her new job at Daybreak. It just feels like a jump in the deep end to move that quickly.

And no send-off for her! It just leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, and not very respectful or loyal to the BBC. For the viewer, it looks as though she couldn't care less about the programme, but really it was just inconvenient timing of her pregancy. Although I wish her well and she's clearly very aspirational, it just seems too hasty and ill thought out.

When you compare her to the like-for-like Louise Minchin or Susanna Reid, she just seems a bit unexperienced. But then again, comparing Breakfast and Daybreak is quite a thing to do! Also, very sad that the programme has turned its back on familiar faces like Kate G or Helen F and gone for an unknown face. A very strange move indeed - risky is the word!

I can't get NWT at the moment, but will they mention it, I wonder?

I can't really agree with some points you've made there, Andrew.

Firstly, just because Annabel's picture has replaced Ranvir's on the Facebook page does not mean she is the new, permanent replacement. Until some official confirmation is received, I'd suggest Annabel is a temporary 'placeholder' until a decision has been made. She may well end up as Ranvir's replacement but I think it's too early to say with rather flimsy evidence.

Secondly, I really don't think her move to national TV is hasty at all. She's done quite a few years on NWT now and would have to make her break into national TV at some point. You say radio is different to TV - yes, but at least her name will now be familiar to a percentage of people outside of the north west. And what better way to start your national TV career than presenting the first hour of a second-rate breakfast show that hardly anyone watches? She can cut her teeth on that for a while, then move on to something else. It's not as if she's moving from NWT to News at Ten all in one go.

And comparing Ranvir's new role to Susanna Reid and Louise Minchin is unfair in my opinion. Susanna and Louise are more akin to Lorraine Kelly in her new role. Ranvir is equivalent to Moira Stuart during her stint on Breakfast. Moira presented the first hour (half hour? Can't remember now) of Breakfast and then read the bulletins during the rest of the programme.
