I've always rated Nicholas. His reaction as he learns of Diana's death as Royal Correspondent live on ITN (or is now allowed to react to what all journos had probably known for a little while by the point at which PA had broken the embargo and all outlets could then run with it) is one of the things that stand out for me during that surreal night/early morning. V. professional but warm and relaxed too.

I remember the Dermot and Nicholas two way that night. Nicholas Owen is one of the most solid newscasters around. The fact he's still hired is a testament to his talent.

Well while the opening gambit to this conversation was a little unfortunate it's good to see a range of people showing their appreciation for somebody who doesn't always get the recognition he deserves.

I'm hoping that he stays long enough to take over Royal Correspondent from Nicholas Witchell once Charles ascends, he had an excellent rapport with Clarence House when he held the post at ITN, Charles has made it known in the past what he thinks of Mr. Witchell.

you almost don't notice how good he is.

At last! We agree on something. Apart from the word "almost".

Yes, of course you have to be nice at times to be a newsreader, but you have to have a "hard edge" to you. A change in voice and look that says, enough of the pleasantaries, this is hard news now. Jane Hill does this perfectly in my opinion. You can hear her voice change. Nick is fluffy all the time. In my opinion.

You're entitled to your wrong opinion. If I was in the position you are, I would be taking the overwhelming amount of support your views have received as a cue to quietly drop the subject rather than continuing to dig yourself a hole.

Is there a link to that two-way mentioned above? I was only 15 so it's a little vague to me.

I was watching the 11o'clock headlines, really to see who it was, more than the actual news LOL. I've never seen Rebecca Jones before, is she new? I seen an arm to the left of the screen in front of the 'catwalk' beckoning her forward for the camera, hence my reasoning for asking.

She's been presenting for some time, as a relief presenter.

Her day job is as one of the Arts Correspondents.
