What's the deal with that floor? Looks like it's tiled, which is pretty unusual for a TV studio where having it exactly flat and level is key to being able to track a camera ped across it smoothly, not have differences in height between tiles to deal with.
On this morning's Breakfast, just before Newswatch, as Matt Taylor was handing back from the weather, Naga Munchetty got her words mixed up and said "thanks very mutt match", which I thought was quite amusing!

From looking at those photos of the studio by Nick Garrod, I wonder why they opted to design the set along the length of the studio.
Personally I'd have used the full width and opt for a similar set up to the Daybreak 2012 set with a straight sided angled sofa. Could they have not done this and added one the screens on the width at the other end for business, musical performances, etc and have cameras down the centre?

I doubt they wanted the design to vary too much from TC7 to avoid any further bad press the move to Salford had already had.

Even with the circular sofa it could be shot the other way with the two screens behind them, the sofa turning slightly and the presenters sat of the left of the sofa. The screens of the right could give a better angle for two ways and the longer shots of the sofa could give the impression of more space.

I think that would make it all look much smaller, in saying that there is virtually nothing that can be done with that studio. I think they've done the best out of very little space, and it's unlikely they'll move studio anytime soon.
I caught the end of MOTD2 the other day. It seems a shame they can't use that studio: it looks more versatile and could look OK if re-lit and with the addition of a sofa.

I don't think MOTD2 comes from a BBC studio though does it? Doesn't it come from a Dock 10 studio hired specifically for the show, as MOTD does?
Football Focus, Final Score and MOTD all come from a Dock 10 studio AIUI, and I believe MOTD2 does as well?
I'm sure Breakfast would love the budget to be able to hire a studio from a third party resource provider like Dock 10...

. IIRC the MOTD studio is rented by the bbc as you said. What studios do the BBC actually own in Salford?
