A refreshed studio design for Sky News (June 2014)

I've had this idea in my head for a long time, but only recently got round to designing it. It's basically taking many of the design features from Sky News Arabia's set, and putting them into the existing space at Sky News.

*
This image is just an overview of the majority of the studio. I've changed the lighting fins so that they run in a straight line, creating a little bit more space. I also think that the more box-like shape of the set would make it look better on-air.
The desk is a replica of Sky News Arabia's - a much longer, larger desk placed in a different position, giving a new newsroom backdrop.

*
This is the kind of shot you'd see at the TOTH.

*
This would be the newsroom backdrop - the render is a bit dark for some reason, but you get the idea. Lots of desks, two large plasmas showing the logo loop, and some lighting fins.

*
Now for the biggest change - the shoebox. It would be replaced by a raised platform, with space for two presentation points. One for Sunrise, the other for Sky News at Ten/Eleven and maybe the Midnight News.

*
The backdrop for Sunrise is now of the rest of the studio. The current backdrop is quite boring IMO, but this is a lot more vivid - the main presenter shot would have the gallery in the backdrop, whilst the sofa shot would have the studio and newsroom as a backdrop.

*
Just opposite the Sunrise area would be this smaller area, as said, it would be used primarily for Sky News at Ten/Eleven. The light boxes would be able to change colour, its purple-ish at the moment to show how it would look for Sky News at Ten.
The main backdrop for the presenter would be the lightbox and the three fins - a muted backdrop but it would work for a late news bulletin I think. It's also a nice change from the gallery backdrop, which is seen far too much IMO.

So, thats my re-imagined Sky News studio. This is my first time rendering, and I haven't really made a mock for ages, so constructive criticism is welcome!

I really like it! Don't know if it might be a little too dark, seeing as it would be used 24/7. If possible could you upload it to the sketch up warehouse (if its been done in Sketchup- I'm assuming so!) and I'll have a look, and give you greater feedback if necessary.

Again really like it 4/5

Really nicely done - simple but gives a bit of variation. Only criticisms I can make is the newswall seems rather distant from it all and even less relevent than it is now, while the second set in the raised area seems rather basic - probably more suitable for overnights and filler news hours than any flagship bulletins.

I personally think that Sunrise is really cold and gloomy, The rest is fine, but for breakfast television, I think it needs to brightened up a tad.

Overall, it's great, it just needs a tad more light and a bit less grainy rendering.

Maybe switching the Sunrise set and the second set would work better.

I think you'd still want a live background. perhaps have a look at what BBC Sport have done to improve their hub in salford. It used to be dark and gloomy, but they've made it much lighter. With clever lighting, and maybe a light, walled surround at waist hight you could improve the onscreen look??

Sorry for bringing this up, but it seems I must have missed it at the time. This is absolutely brilliant! For such a long time the Sky News Centre has felt cluttered, which paired with unflattering camera angles, has only made it feel smaller than it is. This design allows the full size and scale of Sky News Centre to be shown off. Fantastic work!

As someone who works in the space in question, I really enjoyed this. I would say, however, that the other facet of the shoebox (purple corner thing) is a total non-starter given the square-footage (or lack thereof).
