First impressions - it looks a lot better than the previous offering. Lots more content - not just video news! Nicely laid out and simple to browse.

The regional sites have relaunched too - i.e. http://www.itv.com/news/london - however existing sites like http://www.itv.com/london still exist but I would assume these will just be redirected to the new "text stream" sites soon?

I'm quite impressed. It's very simple, but there's actually a lot of content here, and all the regional sites use the same layout.
Would prefer for the "Topic" menu to be permanent and horizontal rather than a pop down affair.
Improvements undoubtedly coming. Hidden gems:

Well it's ok, the timeline is quite a nice idea, but still for me it's not very easy to navigate.

Poor that the static content like 'about us' and contact pages is contained within the date-driven hierarchy:
http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/2012-03-04/contact-us/
Messy.
And although RSS feeds for regions and topics do exist, you have to guess the URL from the top-level feed.
A huge improvement over the appalling site they had before, but a certain lack of attention to detail.

Also, according to The Guardian:
So new Sports and ITV Player sites on the way too.
Overall think the News site is very promising. It's not a "me too" service trying to copy others, but rather an innovative approach. While I think some areas of the navigation could be improved and made clearer, the concept and execution is pretty tight from the word go.
I'm also very impressed with the mobile version. Well done ITV, for once you've actually delivered something decent online!

ITV News has relaunched as a 24-hour, platform-agnostic streaming service in a bid to reach new digital audiences.
The broadcaster has overhauled its news website to focus on rolling live video streams, also optimised for smartphone and tablet devices.
The site unites content from across ITV’s news portfolio, including Daybreak, ITN, and its nine regional news rooms. From today, visitors can watch rolling breaking news video feeds, updated in real time, and which they can share on Twitter and Facebook – a first for the broadcaster.
ITV MD Robin Pembrooke (pictured) told new media age the site has been designed to extend to connected TVs further down the line, where there will be potential to create more converged, second-screen news output .
“We wanted to be as flexible as possible with the design, both in terms of the devices it works on and in how we structure the information,” he said. “The result is we can now create news feeds that can roll out to new types of services in future, and the product has also been designed to create new news experiences on connected TVs in the future.”
ITV is intending to incorporate further ways to personalise the user experience across the site in the future, according to Pembrooke. Currently, users can access regional and local news via drop-down boxes, but this will be extended over time.
“In later releases we will introduce ways for people to further personalise the site, and save their preferences,” he said. This will mean individuals can return to a home page that is more personalised to their reading history, tastes and preferences.
The overhaul marks the latest step in the broadcaster’s online transformation strategy. The rolling service will allow it to extend its news service beyond its traditional linear TV slots, to appeal to a wider digital audience, according to Pembrooke.
“News is integral to us and we spend over £100m a year on creating news content across the UK,” he said. “ This is about reflecting and surfacing that content in a modern and innovative way that works across PCs, mobiles and tablet devices, and makes the most of all our assets .”
All ITV news rooms, including the regional ones, have been provided with a set of tools with which they can deliver live blogs, and broadcast-quality video news throughout the day online.
ITV’s head of digital media for news and sports Julian March said the move marks the first time it has been able to “break out” of its terrestrial TV slots. “We have never had a rolling news channel on TV and so this is our first 24-hour rolling news service,” he said. “We reach 40m viewers per month on TV, but news breaks either side of those gaps. Also, it’s 2012 and customers have an expectation to receive news on any screen they have.”
The broadcaster will closely monitor feedback and engagement on the site – data that will help it define future road maps, according to March. “Audience insight is highly important and we will use that intelligence around user traffic to help develop and write our future road map,” he said. “It is vitally important in a medium like ours to know what is working and that user traffic flows through the site to inform our future map.”
ITV worked with digital agency Made By Many to develop and execute the project. The site will roll out in a staggered approach to all regions from today.
The site also includes additional ad opportunities, such as rich display ad formats, including MPUs, which will be delivered within live video streams at points relevant to the content. ITV is also driving developments in interactive video-on-demand ad formats, mainly designed to feature around long-form content, but which have the potential to be used on the site in the future, according to Pembrooke.

Adam Crozier, the ITV chief executive, has put the relaunched ITV News site at the centre of his review of the broadcaster's online offering, which includes the video-on-demand site ITV Player.
The relaunch comes ahead of the government's budget day announcements on Wednesday. ITV also plans to relaunch its sport website ahead of the summer Olympics.

Old regional URLs such as www.itv.com/london now redirecting to the new www.itv.com/news/london pages.

On iPhone if you add the site to your home screen, it takes on a cool icon:

On the mobile, the logo needs fixing, photos seem to be stretched a little, no category selection.
Although its simple, quick, share tools, non-flash videos (a step in the right direction).
The desktop side is nice, but: the drop down 'More ITV' is different to the one on the main itv.com, as well as the itv.com link being hardly linkable.
Most of the article heading are not linked, but clicking on the 'xx minutes ago' is.
Don't like the green on the Regions, as well as different links such as 'Weather' are named and place different on the sidebar, on Meridian it's 'ITV Meridian Weather' (close to the top) with video, but Calendar is just 'Weather' at the bottom, and using just tweets.
