Dancing on Ice 2010

Dancing on Ice has been going for four weeks now, yet no-one has started a thread on it yet. So here's the Dancing on Ice 2010 thread.

I've watched it each week to-date. Here are the celebrity couples who have been knocked out so far:
Week 1 (female celebs only) - Sunday 10 January: Sinitta and Andrei Lipanov
Week 2 (male celebs only) - Sunday 17 January: Bobby Davro and Molly Moenkhoff
Week 3 - Sunday 24 January: Jeremy Sheffield and Susie Lipanova
Week 4 (1970s week) - Sunday 31 January: Tana Ramsay and Stuart Widdall

I'm so glad Bobby and Molly went out in week 2. He couldn't dance on ice. After the skate-off, Emma Bunton said “Bobby is funny, but it is Dancing On Ice, not Comedy On Ice, therefore I’ll save Gary”.

So who would you like to see eliminated next? I'd like to see Dr. Hilary Jones and Alexandra Schauman go this coming Sunday (7 February), as Dr. Hilary is not much of a dancer on ice. Face it, he's the GMTV doctor. As we all know, GMTV celebs don't seem to be up to much in dance competitions. Remember Kate Garraway in Strictly Come Dancing 2007? She kept finishing bottom (or near bottom) of the judges' leader board, and attracted negative judges remarks, yet took until week 7 to be knocked out. Then there was Andrew Castle in Strictly Come Dancing 2008, and he got low placings on the leader board, but took until week 7 to be eliminated.

This show is really not my thing. But it's certainly a lot fresher than any of the BBC's efforts in this direction.

Looks like Robin will miss at least one show for the Olympics, with a guest judge to be revealed next Friday.

Something I was only saying to someone the other day. Why is it that, despite all the criticism they get, ITV are so much better at making shows like this?

Never really caught the last few series of this, but I've seen a fair bit of the current one. Very slick production and surprisingly watchable. Surprised Heather Mills has lasted so long considering she's hardly the nation's sweetheart!

I can't stand Strictly, and not really a fan of Ice Skating, but have watched and enjoyed this from the beginning. I think it's all just more inclusive than Strictly, which gets bogged down by rules and the technicalities rather than just being entertaining, and feels quite exclusive.

I do think this year though has yet to take off yet - it's all been a bit bland and safe up until now and could do with a few performances which make the viewers sit up and take notice.

I think the problem is it has become too repetitive. They haven't made any attempt to revamp the show other than adding the judges, and we see the same thing every year but with different contestants in different roles.

I used to really like the show. Last year I couldn't get into it at all, and this year seems a bit more watchable but its not must see TV at the minute, its just background noise.

I think they need to make big changes for next year especially with the judging panel. The only judge worth keeping is Karen.

The judges are fine, but I do agree things haven't changed too much since series 1 in terms of what they do. I think for example having a week in the later stages of solo performances (then perhaps a second with their partner) and perhaps incorporating the flying into the Bolero to freshen the final up a bit wouldn't be a bad idea.

I think the show is fine, but it feels a little stale this year... not sure why. Needs a bit of "freshening up" some how.

Oh - and I'm sure I'm not the only one expecting to see Bo Beaumont stumble onto the ice every time I watch the programme.

I think it's also suffering from that same problem Strictly has - too many contestants to start with and could do with being cut back to 12, with them all skating every show.

the titles change every year, so dos the opening to the theme tune! But the set has remained virtually unchanged. The set grows taller every year and now looks pretty good. The only noticable change was the loss of the steps behind the judges. they used to lead up to the platform that Holly and Phil sometimes present from but now they are no more!! it would be nice for them to return so that the judges can waltz down to their places!

I don't know what to suggest as far as the set backing (the angular shapes that dominate the studio) is concerned. I think its great but the fact that its been the same for 5 years makes it seem tired despite it looking still very modern. the layout is functional so should stay the same if a revamp is on the cards next year. maybe a change of format??

The Ice has been there for 5 years now and looks tired. They should get rid of it.

I am always disappointed that 70s night just means the contestants wear 70s clothes and dance to 70s music. What about decorating the studio and dressing Philip and Holly up a bit? Look at Deal or no Deal for how to do a special.

What about a dress down Sunday? Anyone who has worked in an office will get the idea, everyone (contestants and presenters) wear their casual clothes (jeans and tracksuits maybe) and take a half hearted approach to their jobs. Something like this...
