I do like the UKTV brand, and I don't see how it needs to 'hide the fact some of the channels (eg. Gold) are showing less 'UK' programmes' - because it's the same as the British BC showing Heroes, for example - it's based in the UK, but that doesn't mean it needs to show UK programming.
However, I think the new brand will be a good thing
if it is good
- though is it actually a new brand or just a new look?

It's really just becoming a commercial version of the BBC. Do UKTV have to bid for rights to recent BBC programmes against rival broadcasters, or do they just get them automatically?
I can see their position as they position themselves more competitively in the digital market coming into question, especially if Virgin do pull out and they become wholly owned by rhe BBC (through BBC Worldwide).

UKTV: Richard and Judy's new channel to launch in October
What a poor headline on MG's part. It isn't like the channel will have all things Richard and Judy, 24 hours a day!

It says that UKTV History, UKTV Documentaries, UKTV People, UKTV Style, UKTV Food, UKTV Drama and UKTV Gardens are expected to be all getting new names, but no mention of UKTV Gold.
Yes it does. It says UKTV Gold will be renamed 'Gold'.
That will confuse some with the semi-national radio network also named Gold.
