Anyone got any predictions for the 'teams' for the World Cup television?
I reckon:

BBC
Presenters: Lineker, Stubbs, Bashin, maybe Chiles for highlights
Commentators: Motson, Brotherton, Pearce, Wilson, Mowbray
With the usual pundits

ITV
Presenters: Logan, Smith, Rosenthal
Commentators: Tyldsley, Drury, Champion (they've had a quiet few months lately!)
Pundits: Earle, McCoist, Venables etc

I'd say you're pretty much spot on. But to be honest I dont think Adrian Chiles will make it at all. There will be nothing for him to do - Lineker will handle the live matches, with Stubbs/Bhasin taking Football Focus and highlights shows, and maybe the odd live game.

As for the BBC's 'usual pundits', Hansen, Shearer, Wright, Dixon, Peacock, Pallister etc will all be there. Co-commentators will be Lawrenson, Le Saux and Bright. But the Beeb always have a special guest for the big tournaments - they brought in Johan Cruyff for Euro 2000. Maybe Martin O'Neill will make a comeback.

I hope this will be Motson's last tournament, he's really started to annoy me lately, think he's a bit past his sell by date. Would rather Drury or Champion replaced him, they are far better IMO.

Though it's a different issue now with digital and interactive TV, I never really understood why the BBC and ITV didn't split the last matches in the group stage so they could show one each when they kick-off at the same time.

Good to see that a BBC/ITV deal has been reached with the Broadcaster to these games, I remember last time in 2002 when the Cost of the games dramatically increased, but apparently the BBC and ITV weren't willing to preare this much and the games could have gone to Sky, but luckily a deal was negociated.

I don't think it's as simple as that. The EBU have purchased the rights on the behalf of all member European broadcasters. ITV and the Beeb had no direct control of the negotiations, though I'm sure each broadcaster had a representative on the negotiating team.

BBC and ITV are fully paid up members of the EBU, so as the EBU hold the Euro rights both can show as much or little as they wish. I think the same still applies for the Olympics? ITV could if they wanted cover next week's games. I don't recall any ITV winter games coverage since Torvill and Dean's performance at Sarajevo 1984 ?

I would presume on these occasions they will either close the CITV Channel early or show the matches on ITV2. It only applies to those last 2 days when ITV have rights to two 3pm games anyway

It seems quite unfair the BBC would get to screen all England knock-out games. Surely if the round of 16 goes to the BBC, ITV should get the Quarter Final pick.

I was thinking that. Ok, ITV get 2 out of 3 first round games, but then the BBC get to show the 2nd round game, Quarter final and semi-final!

Surely ITV should have the Quarter Final?, or possibly the semi-final exclusively if England get that far?

I think most people prefer the England matches on BBC. The commentary and analysis is far superior to ITV. And without the adverts!

I'm sure that detail didn't come into it when they were distributing the games!

No, I'm just considering your comment that ITV should have the quater final (if England are still there). Laughing

This is a fairness issue, it's not about preference.

Surely any extra matches and coverage will be shown on ITV4 now rather than the ever-increasing female ITV2?

I don't think sport is supposed to go on ITV2 anymore?
