The Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Thread

A few days late - but Look North Leeds was excellent last week. Yes they may have forgotten about other news apart from the snow/ice (don't know if you have noticed that its been cold of late), but the OB's have been very professional. I know Christa gets a few criticisms on here, but she is at her best on location on a big story.

Look North Hull was poor in comparison - in sense that Peter Levy didn't step out of the warm studio all week from what I saw. He needs to get out and about a bit more in my opinion.

To be fair Peter used to be go out and about in the region previous to the arrival of this current editor. The lincolnshire show was a must go annual event, in addition to other OBs to seaside resorts.

Well you wouldn't get a blank screen if a region fails to opt, you get either London or for certain headline opts the sport/business headlines which go out on the News Channel.

It looked like (on DTT) they stated in circuit after Inside Out but there was no sound on the national headlines so they took Leeds out of circuit and didn't opt-out again for the opt.

First time I've seen Leeds fail on the 8pm.

No sound during the first few minutes of tonight's Look North. Viewers had to lip read what Christa was saying!

Keeley Donovan hosted the lunchtime Look North again yesterday. She was back with recorded weather at teatime but by then Tanya Arnold was in the hot seat. Tanya seems to be doing much more newsreading thesedays

From, the preview of 'Late Kick Off' it looks like it will be studio based, so yet another redress of the Look North set.

Fred Talbot with tonight's Yorkshire weather for the first time. Much more entertaining that the usual cover presenters.

Well that is a nice surprise! Very odd seeing him this side of the pennines...

I thought Fred was great, and really refreshing - a bit old-school, quirky and brimming with personality - something we're very short of in these days of bland, corporate TV presentation.

A rare occurance yesterday with the main weather forecasters on both Calendar and Look North on duty on a Sunday!

Think Paul has done the odd time last year, but certainly can't remember John Mitchell doing a weekend in a couple of years

Is it just me or is the lighting/racking in the Leeds studio a bit poor?

The transition just now from Phil Bodmer on a live OB from inside a building, where the picture was very natural looking, with natural looking flesh tones and a very crisp picture going to Harry in the studio where everyone's face is slightly orange (particularly Harry's close up camera) and the picture is slightly soft highlighted how bad it is.

I don't know if it's just the internally lit light boxes, and the busy red images on them, but it just doesn't look that great. It's mad that a studio environment, where everything should be entirely controllable looks worse than a temporary set up at an OB.
