Something worth remembering for the next time someone suggests the American local TV format should work in England.

Yeah you do that. Cool
Anyway....

its interesting they also operate or at least did operate the local Telemundo 52 has it own chopper. Something tells me they might be playing it loose with this promo. And KNBC is certainly not the first ever to have 2 Choppers, KABC did at one point. I was watching a chase this week and the camera angle completely switched to a different chopper. Hmmmm.

I've always wondered about that angle-switching. Must have shared feeds

WRAL 5- Raleigh NC reported 3 dead in collapse of a scaffolding at an office building under construction in downtown Raleigh, NC. WRAL has their chopper (Sky5) up over downtown Raleigh. They are in live rolling coverage.

WRAL does have a history of innovation. Amongst is achievements: Back in 1996, WRAL-TV was first to broadcast a digital signal in high definition. In 2001, WRAL became the first local television station in the world to gather and broadcast all of its news programming in high definition. WRAL became the first local television station to in the country to produce a program in the new broadcast technology called 4K, or Ultra High Definition

Where did they show that 4k? Test only I guess.

And it's surprising to find out how long ago digital HD was being worked on. I wouldn't have thought you could make decoder and encoder boxes fast enough to handle it back then.

Think WRAL may have been doing 4K tests like the BBC tests over the summer last year.

The US and Australia introduced HDTV broadcasts (not tests - actual services) in late 1998, around the same time that the UK launched SD 16:9 digital services. Australia used the same modulation system as the UK (DVB-T) but used HD MPEG2 rather than SD MPEG2. The US used MPEG2 and their COFDM 8VSB standard which didn't really take off outside North America, other than in South Korea.

Here is more on WRAL's 4k documentary. They always try to be first to do something, especially on a local level. Kinda makes sense as they are located in one of the biggest tech research areas in the US. - The Research Triangle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_Triangle

KFOR 4 and Oklahoma City/Tulsa tv station choppers were up for Tornado a small outbreak across the cities of OKC/Tulsa. 3-25-15
KFOR -4's BOB MOORE CHOPPER4 captured a tornado develop live on air. The interesting thing to note about this is the NWS had NOT issued a tornado warning on this! My jaw dropped when I heard this yesterday. Some people had asked what is the purpose of this type of coverage? This is the reason. Had they not been there to capture it no one would know "officially" there was a tornado or tornadoes on the ground as there was no warning put out. They can show where it is as the sophisticated radars cant give exact streets in the moment there are sweeping thru.

Those these storms were horrible they did cause damage. One person died in Tulsa. As the storms swept thru Tulsa a few stations had to evac, but the meteorologist stayed on the air thru the dangerous part of the storm.
They are in the worst tornado hot spot.

KRIV -Houston FOX station just aired a live police shooting following a chopper chase. LA TV stations learned their lesson about this and obviously this lesson was not followed by the camera operator in Houston as well as master control. I was watching this chase, it ended violently. With the suspect crashing his car. As he jumps out the police shoot him dead. I wasnt sure what was happening. As this is a regular occurrence in LA most all the stations are on a tape delay and the pull out so as not to broadcasts something so graphic. Shame on Fox Houston. Tape delay idiots!

Also frankly the police handled it wrong. Thats another story.
