The new larger video player is a great improvement and the In Pictures section too: http://beta.bbc.co.uk/news/10608845 A shame they appear to be using the old indexes for Magazine and a couple of others. Hopefully these will have the new look soon.

BBC News website is now live with the new look.
I have to say this new look looks fantastic - much more modern & cleaner than before!
Videos are set out much nicer as well - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10625563
Interesting they've ditched http://news.bbc.co.uk - just redirects to www.bbc.co.uk/news - it used to retain it's own URL in the address bar.

well I think there is a lot of potential, however currently it's a bit rubbish.
1 - there is far too much white space, especially on story pages
2 - because everything is so massive, local news is now harder to find
3 - lack of pictures in the main headlines makes it seem like there is less news
most importantly however, I noticed a claim in the FAQ that they are planning to retire the news.bbc.co.uk domain once the changeover is complete.
Are they actually insane? 12 years of links, references in books, essays, reports, journals and the like would be made useless due to that change. How hard is it exactly to run a server with a modrewrite script on it. urgh

They're just doing it to irritate you.
Still, lets see how many whiners work their way out of the woodwork and swear off ever using the website again.

The BBC Local news indexes and the BBC Local sites are currently being merged - so the old 'news indexes' under the news site now redirect.
BBC London used to have a BBC News page and a BBC Local page (bbc.co.uk/london) now it is ALL stored at BBC London.
You can access all the pages from here
http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/hi/default.stm
And it's actually easier now to find local news stories - just go to England and scroll down a little bit - it's all there in a big black box.

BBC FAQ posted:
Any bookmarks you have to news.bbc.co.uk will continue to work and we have no plans to stop supporting old news.bbc.co.uk urls, however we would recommend that you begin using the www.bbc.co.uk/news address from today as it will now offer the most direct route to the site.

The BBC Magazine is running a piece on "What would a new bank look like" and are using the following logo for their 'Newbank'..

Looks very similar to Facebook though!
