The "LATER IN THE PROGRAMME" aston, which goes outside the safe areas due to the massive font size, looks pretty ridiculous.

I like the new look but have to agree with you on this aspect. It was far too big.

I think like a couple of people , the more I see the more I don't mind it. - I think always on the first day,as it's such a change, people don't like it.

Just a few tweaks i.e, better & repositioned (to after the headlines) voiceover. Stupidly big name/coming up straps replaced. Making the desk one colour i.e. not white and off white because of the real and fake bits of the desk.

Also I should think that there might be a few tweaks - they nearly always do a couple of weeks after.

But as said previoulsy , they should have kept NAT separate, but that can't be changed now & it's not going to make me stop watching. But i do understand the need to bring them toghter , i think it's just because we prefwered the old look.

Overall a better second day.

If anythink has actaully come out of this relaunch it's the promotion. I've seen the promo's numerous times and for NAT ( Sorry ITV News , at Ten Laughing ) there is about 4 "coming up at ten " promo's.

There was one at the end of the EN, then about 8:45,normal one at 9:45 , then one during the credits of the programme directly before NAT. ( yesterday there was one during Emmerdale - not sure if there was one tonight or if it was replaced with the 8:45 one tonight.)

I noticed they do one 2 - one with Mark & one with Julie, with different stories, I suppose to appeal to different people. I wonder the number of "coming up's" will be kept up or not??

Also, the CA was still calling it the "New look " ITV News at Ten tonight!

Now it's just another generic TV news bulletin that happens to be broadcast at 10pm.

So? It's not like it was a huge success, is it? The BBC beat it almost every night with their 'generic' bulletin.

Yes, the BBC 10 did beat NAT just about every night, but I think everyone recognises the BBC News brand is un-matched - generic or otherwise.

NAT is the closest ITN/ITV ever got to having a strong news brand - widely recognised and respected by UK audiences. And when you're up against the mighty reputation and resources of the BBC, that's a pretty impressive achievement. Plus, the programme was still bedding in and was consistently gaining audience share ever since Sir Trevor's departure. And if I'm not mistaken, it was still the most watched news bulletin on ITV.

It just seems a bit reckless to me that ITV would be prepared to discard that so easily (again). News reputations are hard won, and I question whether ITV has actually learnt anything at all from the last time it ditched NAT.

Interesting - I hadn't realised that the desk was partially virtual, but you can see the difference between the real desk and the VR desk sides on the camera right hand side of the desk during that closing move - as you see the edge "break up" a bit.

Are they making the desk "bigger" - or is the entire front of it - including the rostrum (aka baking tray) and underlighting virtual?

They also appear to be struggling with the chroma-keying of the desk reflections - Julie's reflection is breaking up quite noticably on that move (so you see the virtual reflections of the background bleeding through)

There have been a few posts suggesting the desk itself is partially virtual. It isn't. The structure of the desk, plinth and underlighting are all real. The only part of the desk that is VR are the yellow squares on the front. These are keyed on and don't always quite line up, hence the mismatch.

Looking at the break-up on the move is it just the yellow panels, or some of the white bits around them as well? Will have to watch a full-resolution version again to see if the tracking fails again. I guess by making the yellow panels virtual they can change the branding on the desk virtually for elections etc. It also helps with keying I guess - as yellow has a large green component.

It's just the yellow panels.
