From Digital Spy...

Digital Spy has received confirmation today that UKTV are to close UK Horizons.

UK Horizons launched in November 1997 along with UK Style and UK Arena (which later became UK Drama) to join the new look UK Gold forming UKTV.

The channel featured a wide variety of programmes that included natural history, science, travel and docu-soaps.

Replacing UK Horizons will be two brand new channels that begin on March 8th, UKTV Documentary and UKTV People.

UKTV Documentary will showcase factual programming and the best of British documentary while UKTV People will feature popular factual and factual entertainment programming.

Do you have problems with grammar? Both your post and signature hardly make sense.

I think you meant...

PlayUK was closed, that was crap. Now UK Horizons is to be closed. Sorry, but this is out of line UKtv! What next, UK Gold?

Ah, the mysteries of Beeb2's myopic ramblings, lesse now...

What Beeb2 probably should have posted:
"When PlayUK was closed that was a crap idea, now UK Horizons? Sorry but this is out of line UKtv! What next, UK Gold?"

Back on topic nonetheless, I feel that the swift despatching of UK Horizons on the horizons, no pun intended, is much like what happened to BBC Knowledge. One thing to note, is UKtv now employing a new naming covention for their channels?

When will UKTV stop this relentless channel expansion. It's not enough that they close down UK Horizons, they are going to replace it with TWO channels, which sound like they are going to carry much the same material as UK Horizons, but spread even more thinly.

They've allready got too many channels, they don't need even more. And UK Horizons is one of the strongest in the group, why is that the casualty?

This is just an excuse to rack the tally up even further, and every time they do it UKTV as a whole gets weaker.

There's rumours this is all part of a bigger rebrand, bringing in some new channels from Flextech and renaming the existing ones...i.e...
- UKTV Gold
- UKTV Challenge
- UKTV Trouble
etc. etc. The channels which aren't part owned by the BBC might be given the UKTV name (with all channels getting the 'TV' stuck on them to make them even longer!!)
EDIT: Just beaten to it!!

22 UKTV branded services! Is this not overkill? Methinks it is.
