Why can't sky stick similar channels together such as the gaming ones or the UKTV ones (not counting the doc channels in the 500s).

Also I don't see why they can't put ITV2 or E4 on channels with similar numbers such as E4 on 204 and E4+1 on 205 instead of asigning them completely irelevant channel numbers. I've only just got used to the present ones.

It looks to me that its first come first served and channels arn't allowed to jump the queue, hence why the channels are either shuffling forward or staying where they are.

I'm not sure how BBC3/4 managed to jump past many channels a while ago though?

On which Numbers would I find some of the other itv Regions on>/.

Andrew is correct. Channel numbers are given in chronological order. The oldest have the lower numbers, the newest the higher ones.

When Sky Digital launched the exsisting channels were given places depending on their popularity. Hence it went Sky1, UK Gold, Living, Disney, Family/Challenge.

Each channel is given 3 EPG positions so they can launch sister channels (hence SKy1 is on 106, UK Gold 109, Living 111) .

Any new channels are added in the next empty position. The problem with this is that channels close and move, hence the huge gap between UK Drama and S4C and the gap Disney vacated with was taken by BBC3&4.

In this reshuffle, the companies involved were given the option of moving or staying. Those that stayed get overtaken by any new channels launching after the reshuffle. The ones that have stayed are those who have more to lose by moving than they do by staying put

As we know the reason for this shuffle is to plug gaps caused by defunct channels vacating their numbers creating huge voids particularly between 151 and 181, original current numbers no longer used are as follows, anyone know what used to fill the blanks??

214 and 215 are BBC 1 and 2 Northern Ireland in Eire.

I 'm pretty sure that some of those channel numbers have never been occupied, there was alwaysa big gap between 160 and 178
