Still not great but an improvement. It's a shame BBC News adopted the boxed look as I think it's clear to everyone that a stripped logo would work so much better with the header.
The problem is that black bar on top is just too big - it should just slightly bigger that that search box - there's just too much dead space in there. Then, with a smaller BBC logo in the black part, you could probably have another BBC News in the red part and it would look ok.

My two cents.
Couldn't agree more - there's been no problem with having two BBC logos in the header area up until now, so I don't see why a supposedly improved BBC website should now introduce that problem.
The top header bar is just so poorly designed that one wonders what sort of decision making process managed to produce it. The logo is needlessly big; the accessibility etc links are for some reason squashed in above the logo, despite there being acres of empty space to the right, and the search box floats randomly somewhere in the middle.
It seems like a product of such bad design that one wonders why the website team haven't simply changed the black header bar, rather than forcing website sections like News and Sport to replace their web branding with compromised versions.
At a time when the BBC News brand in particular is being pushed and marketed so hard, it's fairly absurd to be showing on the website a version of the logo that doesn't equate to any other configuration of the BBC News brand currently in use.
