Region settings withdrawn

TV Forum's settings not Sky's (October 2006)

Since last September I've noticed that some of the users location settings (e.g. ITV Region/BBC News) have been greatly disappearing over the month and it's starting to become noticeable.

Even though some of you may not find this important or serious that this is happening, my location details were intact earlier on today but straight after I've finished my 169th post on stating that You Bet is not equal to Ant V Dec my location details mysteriously vanished.

When I checked my profile they were reset to default but what's sinister is that I've never touched my region/location settings since last July.

I think this has also affected other users like
Asa
nok32uk
tvmercia
TV Fetish
Hymagumba

...and many others who visit here on a regular basis. It's quite simple noticing that it's happened to them because basically for example Asa's location details:

ITV Region:
Meridian

BBC News:
South East Today

TV Capture Capabilities

They're basically missing (and so could the TV CC) as I'm quite aware he has TV CC.

The reason I'm pointing this out because there could be a bug causing various details to reset themselves and I'd like to get any more information about this mini shenenigan going on and I'd like to see if there's a way to tackle this.

My location details were reset around 3.15pm today and it will explain why they're missing. And finally I was originally going to post this on Media Websites but posting it here will bring more attention about this incident.

The settings used to disappear when you changed your signature on Firefox but I think it just seems to go anyway.

I've added my regions to the bottom of my signature in case anyone actually cares.

Well I did change my signature before my post but I'm not on Firefox, I'm on IE6.

Edit: You'd may like to know that I've had various signatures onto my profile before and my 'region settings' were intact all that time.

Firefox was the problem I kep having. However I'm now unable to get it to save in IE7 either.

Quite honestly this whole site is becomming a joke. I know Asa's been put off working on the new software since * the move* but what we're currently using is so buggy and crippled I'd have preferred to keep the "a bit duff" setup we had along with the too busy messages.

Is it not possible to move to a clean phpBB install until the new software is working again?

I noticed that too. I used to have my details on and they disappeared. When I try and put it back in it says its updated but it hasn't.

Are you seriously saying you'd prefer to be on a slow website that half the time you can't see the threads because it's 'too busy' all for the sake of the regional settings working?! Because to be honest aside from that and the archive, I see very little else that doesn't work as a result of the move.

This would be the phpBB that doesn't include regional settings or mock ratings or the custom template etc.?

I'll have a look at the region settings when I get some time but I didn't really want to spend time correcting non-essential areas of the site when it's all going to be replaced one day anyway.

I dunno whether I was lucky but I never saw it *that much*. Either I had good timing or am very tolerant (ha).

The loss of the archive is my biggest gripe since the move. And it's so annoying when you log in and are presented with a 404 page.

When is the new software coming Asa? Is it not of "useable but beta" quality yet?

My regions were there (this morning) until I remove the capture flag - they won't come back now. (Using Netscape).

The latter has been there for quite a while..always meant to get around to fixing that one. To be honest, I didn’t realise anyone looked at the archive! After spending an absolute age coding it and getting it to work nicely in XML, I lost interest when the first month it ran on its own, it failed. It’s another thing that will need to be updated to work with the new database tables.

Not really, no. I’ve not worked on it for several months now although a fair chunk of it is working in terms of posting, profile, PMs, session management, homepage (ish) but there’s still lots to do before I want to let it loose. Registration was the last thing to be coded and that included some rough integration with the MP24/7 registration process to allow you to register for both sites in one go.

Cheers, Asa

What I really don't get is why you have announced the project if you havn't worked on it for months. And I don't think that the intergration with Metropol is a wise move.
