With all the excitement of the new look BBC1 idents, another website (mentioning no names but with the initials DS) has, on its forum, rumoured that due to poor public response to their new idents, ITV1 are to ditch their new idents before Christmas.
Purely speculation and the only information I have is from the afore mentioned forum. I personally think it highly unlikely that the new idents will be ditched as early as December. what would replace them? who got the commissioned contract to devise a new look? Why would ITV waste even more money? Claptrap or truth? who knows.....anybody?
I'm sure they will ditch them in December, around the 23rd probably. But they will reinstate them on the 1st January!!
There was a rumour that there may be some new ones added to the set, but in true DS fashion this rumour has turned into complete fact that there will be a full relaunch!
I'm pretty sure that 'buster' has mentioned that the idents would be replaced by the end of the year. He's an insider and has posted some reliable information in the past, such as Sharon Osborne doing daytime continuity (of sorts) the other day.

Would it be a big deal if they were replaced? I mean surely only a tiny fraction of the branding budget was spent on the actual filming of the Idents. Those short clips can't have cost THAT much to make surely? There's nothing special in them at all.

No it wouldn't matter if they were....they're rubbish. But the question is, Are the rumours true? BBC1 had a poor public response with the dancers but continued with them anyway. No one ever complains about ITV's idents in the press. So therefore I believe that with regards to the publics point of view, they're not really in ITV's idents anyway.

I disagree. The ITV Ident clips are so random they make no sense. I mean could you guess the theme of ITV Idents without actually being told what it is? The clips just don't go together at all in my opinion.
At least the BBC Idents had a proper purpose, they had good branding and were entertaining. We've had them for so many years and i haven't kicked the TV set in yet. But If i have to watch that stupid old man stroking his belly ONE MORE TIME, i will find him and set fire to him!

They aren't better than the dancers....
The ITV1 idents are a bunch of clips accompanied by music which is for the most part dull, and fails to even remotely capture the imagination.
Whereas, while BBC ONE has had naff idents like Maasai, there are some very nice scenic or well-shot idents like Capoeira and Acrobats. These have put BBC ONE ahead of ITV1 in the identity stakes, IMO.
