Hi!
Just a few mocks based on this giant red cube idea (which I hope BBC One will adopt soon). These mocks were kind of spur of the moment ideas - I haven't really decided what they stand for yet but I think they would put BBC One back on the map in the way of graphics - I think they're a huge leap from the dancers. The cube(s) would act as a new symbol for the channel - as the globe did a few years back.

Here's an ident idea. The camera would slowly pan across the building and these blocks would fall onto the camera but bounce off too as if they were made of foam. It would all be shot and animated at a high frame-rate.

Inspired partly by Sony's bouncing rubber balls ident - why not bouncing glass cubes?

Here's an idea for the comeback of the clock. The red cube would be floating above the Thames (location could be alternated for each news programme) and a new digital clock would tick up to the hour. I think benjy's brilll red cube mocks subconciously inspired me here.

"Next" sequence. As the cube spins (notice the refraction in the cube - took ages to make in Photoshop!), a still of the programme up next would slide in beneath.

Here the programme's real font or logo would be used - in this case it's Century Gothic for Crimewatch.

ECP example. The red cube highlights the time and day of the programme.

Prrrretty basic graphics for the "tonight line-up", which ultimately shows viewers what they want to see.

Hope you like - would really appreciate your views.

I like it, apart from the scoreboard font.

They are very different, but I'm not sure they're what BBC would go for. Definately c4 or ITV though.

I like the first two idents, though not too sure about the 'next' and ECP mocks as something doesn't feel quite right. Still it's different and interesting set of mocks.

Not to keen on the scoreboard font either or the clock, but the rest has potential.

Nice designs.

Very good. Good ideas, and execution, though have you thought about the logo? I don't think it would go well with this cube theme.

I like the concept, because it is not limited in ident ideas:idea: unlike the dancers (there's only so many styles of dance).

I don't agree, I quite like them.

Overall, I've given it 'Very good' on the star rating.

Simple, bold, vibrant. No more focusing on people, and the ideas are unique, yet not too complex. These are all things I favour, and you're definitely on the right track.

The cube; a simple object to work with, but the ideas and execution transform it into something visually quite captivating and striking.

If there was a video mock of these, pairing that first falling cubes mock with some really good sound design would give you a surefire winner of an ident.

The cube-clock concept; superb idea executed very nicely, complete with reflection of the clock visible in the water. The result is a surprisingly very striking image to me, and I can't find any faults with it (unless I was to nitpick at the highest level).

A spur-of-the-moment idea maybe, but applied excellently. Much better than the current rhythm/movement set; this is a look that, if it were to be used by the Beeb, would arguably be the best since the Balloon.

TML never fails to impress and here he goes again with a well done idea.. I feel that the font choice helps to keep the design together but it's a nice idea if technology ability was no limit with the Next bumper. Will say it's a bit less all-encompassing than previous ident sets used by BBC One and even a touch commerical but it keeps something that stops it from working on a commerical channel, somewhat paradoxically.

Lets just say this should be the level all mockers should aim for.

I love these mocks. I think that they look better than what Red Bee media have made so far.

It seems a bit abbey, it would be great to see it in motion, I am not sure how you will be able to make each ident distinctive

Very interesting.

I think the idea of the cube is strong in that it is adding life to the 'logo square' that exists, and I can certainly see plenty of applicational scope for ident ideas. It has rationale, and works aesthetically. The clock is interesting too.

I'm not quite as convinced about the OSP side, however. Not a negative - just finding an approach to offer critique for you to improve on an already worthwhile idea;
I have concerns about how the block looks when you see it straight on, as it gives the illusion of the front panel having bevelled edges (rather than being able to see through it as intended). I think this is down to the transparency. For me, the blocks would be stronger if they were solid shapes... that way, when they come to rest 'straight on' towards the screen, they adopt the same form and function as the existing red logo box. It's like two states - one when it's in motion, more 3D and animated, and the other when it's still... it appears two dimensional, flat.
I also feel the transparency makes it look a little neon, glowy and 'Saturday Night'. If it retained it's solidity it would be a much stronger symbol, more inkeeping with the BBC logo and brand values.

Also, I'm not convinced about the matrix typeface. It would look great for evening menus, but slightly out of place if you see it during morning programmes, perhaps. I think it definitely works as numerals, arrows etc as you've shown, but perhaps less so in word form. On another channel this wouldn't be an issue, but I think you need to have sympathy with the BBC brand.

Very interesting. Would like to see a second phase of development.
