Production staff at ITV have voted to strike over pay, leaving shows such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale facing possible disruption.
Broadcasting union Bectu said 55% of its members voted in favour of walkouts over a below-inflation pay offer.

Staff were angry that executives were being awarded large share bonuses, said Bectu assistant general secretary Gerry Morrissey.

The union expects to announce dates for strikes after Easter.

Not wishing to trivialise, but just imagine ...

.. accompanied by a certain cheesey jingle Wink

....wouldn't see anything like that ever again, just what are the implications of this strike? I suspect it would be rather minimal, or would it affect Production on ITV's own programmes and Regional News? As the article only mentions Corrie and Emmerdale to name 2.

As I understand it the issues do include the Southern Transmission Centre.

So, if the strike does go ahead... which tit may well do, do you think we'll see the white-on-blue captions, or a more modern looking caption generated by ITV themselves?

If nothing's going out on the lines, the caption is very likely to look like this:-

You wouldn't get the old blue screen of death, as that was an IBA caption.

Neither, they'd just get freelance staff or managers in to provide the service

Nick - the blue screen of death does still exist at the main transmitter sites...and it looks like this:

That's not the old IBA slide to which I was referring.

That's the intermediate slide that was used in the ITC days, when transmission still went via MCRs in the regional stations.

Now the lines go straight from the South Bank or Leeds, direct to the transmitters the world has moved on.

Maybe it's my age, but when I see those blue screens, I prefer to see the teletext style typeface - all jagged and 'computer-ish' !
