Watched the new Angus Deayton quiz "Bognor or Bust" on ITV1, and i have to say i thought it was absolutely awful!

Angus Deayton was on top form, but I just kept on getting reminded of HIGNFY, i'm sorry. Even down to the way he joked about the teams on the score, like he used to do on HIGNFY. I just couldn't get that out of my head!

And for gods sake how many more times must we put up with Tara-Palmer (I'm constantly drugged up) Tomkinson!? Was she on something, because she either looked very p*ssed or completly stoned! Does every new ITV1 show have to involve her in some way!?

I agree! I am fed up with Tara Palmer Whatsherface Rolling Eyes She must have injected her arm in the dressing room or something. She's completely a waste of space! Wasn't Christine Hamilton available instead? Rolling Eyes Still, its a bit of cash in the pocket to keep her 'topped up'.

And who were those comedians again?
Oh and some boring PA from The Sun!

No, she's always like that.

I thought it was OK (the show, not Tara). It wasn't bad but I'm not sure it'll be all that popular either. I may be wrong. The "celebs" - I know James and Tara, who were the other two?!

Angus Deyton: Clapped out old Bognor.
ITV: Bust, or at least they will be if they continue at this level.

Last night [2nd Sept] saw Angus Deyton return to prime time television with his new vehicle 'Bognor Or Bust'. Sounding more like the title of an reality-tainment show where competing bands must play a gig in Bognor and attempt to get signed, the truth behind the show is that it is a 'Comedy News Quiz'.

Fans of HIGNFY may well have perked up their ears like dogs in anticipation before the show, but afterwards would be more likely to scamper away weeping like a scared puppy. The show, which made no attempt to hide the fact that it was for all intents and purposes HIGNFY arrived on ITV1 at 10pm. Entering into a tacky lowbudget set which looked like that of a childrens TV gameshow, the Z list contestants and unknown comedians on the panel were revealed.
If you hear ITV and Z-list, one name has become synominous with this and that is TPT. And lo, there she was, Miss Tomkinson in all her IT-girl glory.

The quiz then began in the usual sluggish way that HIGNFY basked in, only for perhaps too long, with the advert break coming in just after round 1 had finished. After the advert break however, is when this programme unleashed its stinging venom. A supposed joke was read out by Angus, informing viewers that an anagram of Prince Charles' name was [along the lines of] Elbow Diana Spencer and get Camilla on my penis.
An absolutely shocking jibe to make despite it being 6 years on from the crash which killed the Princess. However while regular viewers of HIGNFY would be used to the sight of Paul Merton and Ian Hislop sucking their teeth when Angus dropped a clanger, those watching BoB were greated with rupturous laughter from the audience and all 6 panel members.

As if this was not enough, a later joke of similar flatness both went out on air and shocked all those watching with me again. Before any viewers had time to breathe we were treated to the story that a farmer gave his cows penis enlargements to win a beauty pagent. This was a shocking fall from grace for the ex-presenter of a high brow show.

ITV need to improve the show and raise the comedy level back up to higher-brow stories which are then brought down with small jokes, instead of using low-brow news fresh from the tabloids and pushing them lower.

A pathetic start.... 4/10.

I also watched the formentioned programme where it had some good points and some bad points.

Personally from watching all the promotions for the programme i didn't actually realise it was a topical news quiz! If I did I most certainly would have made a point of tuning in but the promotions didn't sell the programme to me! Therefore Im glad I did tune in out of curiosity to see what it was all about.

The set did look a bit cheap and reminded me of the background used on the ITV News Channel :-

Was it filmed in the ITV Theatre of News?

Quiz-wise, I suppose, ITV couldn't really recreate an exact copy of HIGNFY and so opted to be a tabloid news quiz rather than the broadcheet news quiz from BBC!

The first few minutes did feel quite uncomfortable and im sure TPT was given a few lines to repeat to some of Angus' questions (following on the tradition from HIGNFY)

The biggest let-down was the total unknowns used on the quiz. There are loads of up and upcoming comics out there and im sure they couldve found more high profile (and funny) guests. Do they intend to use the same comics each week or rotate it?

Not bad for a first episode I would mark it 6/10 just because im not used to the format and the people but I will most certainly be watching again next week!

PS is there a repeat on ITV2?
PPS did anyone else notice that the ITV News was two minutes late because of this programme?

Does anyone here who watched it seriously think it'll last for more than one series though? Does anyone here think it'll last even one series!?

No, I seriously DON'T think it'll last. Indeed, I reckon it could be a candidate for dropping part way through the first series, in the new ITV style.

As I mentioned in another thread, last night, my main complaint with it was the constant buzzing and ringing over the top of other people speaking. It made what WAS being said very difficult to hear.

I gave up on it at the commercial break.

Mediaguardian Overnights give it 4.2 million. If it holds and doesn't lose any viewers, it'll last.

4.2 Million!? That's actually rather good. No doubt down to Angus Deayton. Will it see those figures next week though?

The high ratings were most probably down to the inheritance from Doc Martin, rather than Deayton!

TV's Mr. Sex or TV's Mr Sh.ite?

Move on Deayton, stop revelling in past glories and go do voice-overs for loan companies!
